2023 BCANY Team - Nassau County

Every year the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) welcomes teams representing every section of the state to compete in New York’s premier basketball tournament. Players have the opportunity to compete alongside the best players in the state, represent their section, participate in clinics from college basketball coaches, and learn about the college recruiting environment. The tournament strongly supports and encourages sportsmanship and the development of high school basketball in New York state. This summers event was held in Johnson City, NY.


The 2023 Nassau County team was coached by Sewanhaka High coach Jay Allen, and his roster was as follows:

 

Dylan McLennon (2024) 6’3 wing, Sewanhaka High - McLennon is very athletic and can hit mid-range shots and the 3. He is explosive to the basket. He really thrives in transition and full court defense. Dylan’s length creates turnovers and transition opportunities. He also has a very high motor.


Jordan Tucker (2024) 6’2 shooting guard, Sewanhaka High - Tucker h as a college-ready body. He can get to the rim on a consistent basis and is a knock down three point shooter. He rebounds extremely well for his size. Tucker can defend 1-3 on defense and is a “dog” on both ends of the floor.


Elliott LaMotte (2024) 6’3 guard, Sewanhaka High - LaMott is a vocal leader on any team he plays on. He rebounds very well for his size and can defend 2-4. He can finish well around the rim and has a smooth pull up.


Jackson Southerland (2024) 6’3 point guard, South Kent School (CT) - Southerland is an energetic 6’3 PG who is very athletic and can hit the mid-range jumper and the 3. He drives very aggressively to the basket. He can knock down deep 3’s on the perimeter. Jackson is a tough shot maker and good playmaker with the ball in his hands.


Ryan Kennedy (2024) 6’5 small forward South Side High - Kennedy is very solid all around. He is a solid defender and a very good rebounder. Kennedy can create in the post offensively and can hit the mid-range 2. He’s a tough defender and can guard smaller and bigger players.


Ben Zito (2024)  6’5 shooting guard, Oceanside High - Zito has good size and can consistently knock down the 3. His size makes him tough to defend on the perimeter. He also rebounds well for a guard.


Marko Persia (2024) 5’10 guard, Oceanside High - Persia is very shifty with the ball. He is a tough defender and is very coachable.


Dominic Obukwelu (2024) 6’3 wing, Valley Stream North High -Obukwelu is very strong. He can hit the mid-range shot and the 3. He is tough to defend because of his size. He rebounds well and can defend almost any position on the floor. Obukwelu thrives in both full court and 1/2 court defense with his size and length.


Jalen Harrison (2024) 5’8 point guard, Valley Stream North High - Harrison is very tough with the ball. He’s a lefty and can score in various ways. He is a capable 3 point shooter, can knock down the 3, and drives to the basket well. Harrison is an active defender who creates turnovers with his quickness.


Vasilis Triantafyllou (2024) 6’3 wing, North Shore High - Triantafyllou has the ability to fill it up offensively. He has a smooth pull up and can hit the 3. He has the ability to be a weapon offensively. Triantafyllou is a tough defender and can guard smaller and bigger players.
