2023-24 St John the Baptist Season Preview

St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in West Islip, NY. Their athletic teams compete in the Nassau Suffolk Division of the Catholic High School Athletic Association, where they are coming off of back-to-back years as tournament semi-finalists. Their team is coached by Jake Ellis, who is in his sixth year at the helm. Ellis was formerly an assistant at both Queens Colle and NYIT, as well as Head of Operations for Five Star Basketball.


His 2023-24 roster will be lead by the following key players:


Steven Williams (2024) 6’0 guard - Tough guard with a strong body. Deceptively quick, with a much improved jump shot from last year, Looking to be lead guard at SJB this year. He can post, shoot, and blow by. He has received D2 interest.


Christian Williams (2025) 6’1 guard - The younger brother of Steven and is a freak athlete. A strong kid who can dunks with only socks on. Is now featuring an improved jump shot. He is Looking to establish himself as a leader on this roster. Both a lock down defender and the teams best rebounder as a guard. Took 19 charges in a four game span last year!


Jeremiah Carter (2025) 6’3 guard - Carter is a great shooter. He has long arms and legs that he uses to his advantage. He is developing his off hand finishing ability, and he is diversifying his game to be more of an attacker,  which SJB will rely on him to do. Has already received D2 interest.


Jayden Miller (2025) 6’3 guard - Miller is the toughest guard defender on the team. He is also much more confident of a player this year, with a much improved jump shot. Coach Ellis will be relying more on him to be a prominent player in the lineup this year. Dual sport athlete, He is known as “Miller Island” as the shutdown cornerback for the SJB football team.
