Eagle Academy For Young Men in the Bronx is an all-boys’ public secondary school that operates under the guise of the New York City Department of Education. It was opened in 2004, established by the 100 Black Men of America organization.

The boys varsity basketball team is coached by Roosevelt Byers, who also serves as a Director for the Milbank Flyers AAU basketball program. The team is an annual contender for the Bronx PSAL AA Division championship and the Borough championship. Below are the profiles on his key 2023-24 players:

Daye Kaba (2024) 6’6 shooting guard - Kaba can do it all on both ends of the court. He is a great slasher, handles the ball well and keeps defenders guessing with his improved 3pt range. He might possibly be the best player in the PSAL AA Division this winter.

Braylin Sanjurjo (2024) 5’9 point guard - Ready for a break out season, Sanjurjio is a true floor general with unbelievable speed and court vision. He is strong and physical which helps him finish around the rim. He can knock down the open 3 but the midrange and floater are his is go-tos.

D’Andre Gibbs (2024) 6’2 guard - D’andre Gibbs. An electricfing guard who can score the ball In bunches. His improved ball handling will allow him to be more dangerous as opposing teams will not be able to defend him attacking or hitting 3’s around the perimeter. Mr. Gibbs is also a lock down defender. College coaches should keep an eye on a possible player of the year in the PSAL AA.

John Harrington (2024) 6’3 guard - Harrington is a transfer who avgeraged close to 30ppg in the PSAL B division last winter. He can flat out shoot the ball. He a strong guard who also rebounds well from his position. Harrington will be a very important piece to the Eagle Academy program as they look to defend the Bronx championship title and compete for a New York City Title.
