2023-24 Suffield Academy Season Preview

Suffield Academy is a private preparatory school located in Suffield, CT. It was founded in 1833. They have more than 140 adults there to help prepare their 410 students for college.


Their varsity basketball team is head coached by Drew Gamere and assistant coached by Sean Atkins. They compete in the NEPSAC Class A (large schools) conference.

 

Below are the Suffield Academy players will be running in this fall’s Open Gyms:


Mason Wright (2024) 6’4 wing - Does it all. Excellent mid-range shooter with the ability to stretch to 3 point. Runs both ends of the floor - makes hustle plays. Length and athleticism allow him to defend multiple positions. Plays in control off of two feet. Strong finisher in transition and when attacking the rim. Tireless worker - always in the gym. 3.8 gpa


Rob Elliott (2024) 6’5 small forward - Great athlete that can play inside and out. Relentless - runs the floor, pounds the glass, can defend all positions. High percentage shooter with range that dunks in transition. Excellent Basketball IQ - moves without the ball, great team defender - blocks a lot of shots. 3.8 gpa


Alexander Hochberg (2024) 6’4 shooting guard - Excellent shooter with range. Goes strong to the basket - finishes well using strength and length. Good offensive instincts lead to open shots. Plays physical on both ends - Hustles for offensive rebounds and loose balls. Can defend multiple positions. 3.9 gpa


Darian Thomson (2024) 6’5 wing - Elite athlete with good size and length. Scores consistently from the perimeter and when slashing to the basket. Strong rebounder on both ends - often leads to easy baskets on offense. Runs the floor well and can defend multiple positions. College Football prospect also.  3.3 gpa


Cooper Marcum (2024) 6’2 guard - Can handle the ball and score in multiple ways (19 ppg last year). Good shooter that uses his strength and athleticism to get to the basket and finish consistently. Excellent defender that can guard multiple positions. Can do it all - led HS team in points, assists, and rebounds. College Football prospect also. 3.8 gpa


Brandon Burke Jr (2025) 6’6 wing - Terrific prospect that plays inside and out. Long and athletic, he finishes strong at the rim and is an excellent shot blocker. Handles the ball well and can create his own shot. Scores attacking the basket and from the perimeter. Big upside. 3.1 gpa


Jonathon Niv (2025) 6’4 wing - Excellent shooter that can score in multiple ways. Crafty offensive player that moves well without the ball. Uses his length effectively to score around the basket. Makes hustle plays – good offensive rebounder and excellent team defender.  3.7 gpa


Marcus Maxwell-Grimes (2026) 6’2 guard - Quick and athletic guard that can score in multiple ways. Can shoot the 3 and finishes well when attacking the basket. Good ball handler that sees the floor well – good passer. Quickness and length help make him a strong on ball defender.


Alijah Johnson (2027) 5’10 guard – Talented young player with great offensive skills. Shoots with range and has a good pull up jumper. Quick release allows him to shoot over taller defenders. Plays under control - strong and mature for his age. Good defender that always competes.
