Located in the heart of Harlem, Frederick Douglass Academy 1 stands out as a premier college preparatory school, renowned for academic excellence and dedicated to equipping students with the tools needed for successful college endeavors. Their boys varsity basketball team competes fiercely in the challenging PSAL Manhattan A III Division.


The team is coached by long time former assistant coach and FDA alum, Andre Clark in his first season leading the helm. He is assisted by Abdul Bah. Heading into this season, FDA1 unveils a promising new lineup, rebuilding after the departure of seven in seniors. Employing a strategy grounded in robust defense and team chemistry, they aim to establish a solid presence in the competitive A Division. Complementing their seasoned seniors are key role players, ensuring consistent competitiveness:

 

Marcus Vincenti (2024) 6’5 wing - A four-year varsity player, Vincenti is not only a strong academic student but also a force on the court. His prowess in the high post and paint, coupled with consistent rebounding, makes him a valuable asset. Vincenti excels as an on-ball defender, showcasing growth in ball handling and shooting skills, positioning him effectively as a dynamic wing.

 

Desmond Sanderson (2024) 6’3 swing - Sanderson stands out as a solid ball handler with a lengthy wingspan and a robust physique. His ability to create mismatches and drive past defenders adds a versatile dimension to the team’s play.

 

Courtney Ellis (2024) 6’0 guard - Ellis, a reliable ball handler with impressive footwork and a long wingspan, brings strategic plays to the team. His skill set contributes to creating dribble mismatches, enhancing offensive options.

 

Ismael Sow (2024) 6’1 guard - Sow, an athletic and robust guard, thrives in transition plays. With solid ball-handling skills, he creates mismatches and is adept at taking on defenders. Sow’s prowess extends to rebounding and on-ball defense.

 

Ryan Blao (2025) 6’4 swing - Blao, armed with a long wingspan and solid offensive skills, is a key contributor. His proficiency in rebounding coupled with continuous improvement throughout the season positions him as a reliable scorer and defender.

 

Mason Romero (2025) 5’9 guard - Romero, a quick and skilled guard, showcases diverse ball-handling abilities and a sharpshooting acumen. His diligence and solid skill base make him an asset to the team.
