2023-24 Winchendon School NYC Season Preview

Over the past five years, veteran prep school coach, Kevin Kehoe has elevated the Winchendon School in Massachusetts up into the highest ranks of college basketball prep development. They have been running two teams and placing virtually every one of their graduates onto a college basketball team. One of their teams competes in the NEPSAC AA Division and the other competes in the Power 5 AA conference. Winchedon and Brewster Academy were the only two New England prep programs to place two teams in the 2022-23 Top 50 computer rankings.


For the 2023-24 season, Winchendon will be trying to land three teams high in the power rankings. Tapping further into the deepest metropolitan pool of basketball talent in the world,  they have established the Winchendon School, New York City campus. They will be running this third team, playing their home games at Baruch College, and under the head coaching of veteran college prep skills trainer Mackey Bergman. He will be assisted by Raymundo Navarrette.


Winchendon’s NYC team will also compete in the Power 5 AA conference, and will feature the following players:

 

Jack Quinn (2024) 6’9 forward - Quinn is big with incredibly soft hands and great touch around the rim. He can find open teammates as he is a student of the game. He can also extend his game out to the three point line. His ability to score and still give teammates chances to score through hard screens or good passes will fit into plenty of college rosters.

 

Xavion Faison (2024) 6’7, 197 lbs, small forward - Faison is a wing that is a threat on the perimeter with his ability to shoot the ball. He also runs the floor very well and uses his length on defense. His ability to hit open teammates also flashes at times. Overall this type of player will benefit plenty of college rosters .

 

Tyler Purrier (2024) 6’2 140 lbs, shooting guard - Purrier is an all around player who can score the ball on all 3 levels. He take value in defense and can shoot the ball very well.

 

Antonio Quintero (2024) 6’1 160 lbs, shooting guard - Quintero is a hard worker who understands the game and spacing. He is an aggressive rebounder and play maker. He will do anything that’s necessary for the team on offense, defense and getting everyone involved so they can play at their best. He is a knockdown 3pt shooter that can shoot off screens, catch and shoot. He has a good touch around the rim and plays to get to the rim aggressively.


Nesir Navarrete (2024) 6’6, 185 lbs, small forward - Navarrete is a hard working strong wing. His athleticism allows him to get to his spots and be an effective scorer. He is an aggressive defender that has a natural feel for defense and blocking shots. Good rebounder. Team driven player with good leadership qualities on and off the court. 4.0 gpa


Noah Youngblood (2024) 6’1 165 lbs, point guard - Youngblood can offensively attack the basket, finish strong in the paint, and also shoot the ball from distance. He is an unselfish leader on the court with good decision making skills, who can also pass well, making sure his teammates are involved. He sets the tempo with positive energy, hard work, and encouragement. Defensively, he disrupted the offense by applying pressure, forcing turnovers, and making his opponents make quick uncomfortable decisions.


Leo Paasch (2025) 6’1, 165 lbs, shooting guard - Paasch is a hard worker and a knockdown shooter from mid range and three that makes the right play. High basketball IQ and knows how to use screens on and off the ball. Has the ability to get to the rim and is a team first player.

 

Keysean Taylor (2025) 6’0, 160 lbs, point guard - Taylor can offensively attack the basket, is efficient, is good passer and a great facilitator, and has a good midrange pull-up game. Always looking to involve teammates. He set the tone with high energy, hard work, and encouragement. Very strong defensive player.


Bryston Joyce (2025) 6’6, 190 lbs, small forward - Joyce is an aggressive defender and an efficient offensive scorer who understands any offensive or defensive scheme designed for or against him and his team. He values his teammates and respects hard work and wants to lead by that example. 3.8 gpa


Kenny Benedict (2026) 6’6, 180 lbs, shooting guard - Benedict is a young big wing who is able to get to the hoop. Has a high IQ and the ability to control a game at all three levels. Expected to do big things this year.


Atticus Cort (2026) 6’1, 160 lbs, guard - Cort can score at all three levels. He is athletic and has a tight handle which allows him to get past defenders. High IQ player.


Phillip Stewart (2027) 6’1, 155 lbs, point guard - Stewart is a freshman who predominantly finishes around the basket but can also shoot the ball pretty well.  He has have had the opportunity to play in various tournaments and leagues across the Tri-State area. In the 2022-2023 season, prior to arriving at Winchendon, he made the varsity basketball team as the sole 8th grader. At the end of the season he was recognized as the Most Valuable Player and received an Honorable Mention from the Alethic Conference of Independent Schools (ACIS) League.


Roko Laub (2027) 5’8, 135 lbs, point guard - Laub is a point guard that can control an offense. Smart player that is a lighting bolt when he is on the court. He and the coaching staff is excited for his first year of high school basketball.
