2023-24 Loomis Chaffee School Season Preview

The Loomis Chaffee School is a high academic, coeducational, college preparatory school for boarding and day students in grades 9–12, including postgraduate students, located in Windsor, CT, seven miles north of Hartford. It was founded in 1874 by James Chaffee Loomis, a lawyer and politician. Seventy percent of Loomis Chaffee’s 740 students reside on the school’s 300-acre campus and represent forty-four foreign countries and thirty-one U.S. states.


Loomis’ boys varsity basketball team competes in the college prep level NEPSAC Class A (large schools) and the Founders League. The team is coached by Russell “Rock” Battistoni. Last season the team was computer ranked in the New England Top 40, and recently was voted #4 in a Class A preseason coaches poll.  As every year, their 2023-24 roster is loaded with college bound talent:

 

Caleb Crawford (2024) 6’0 guard - A New York City raised play-making guard who can score at all three levels. Shifty in pick-n-roll, gets to his spots. A 45% 3FG shooter. 3.6 gpa

 

Kingston Walker (2024) 6’6 guard - A long and active guard. Facilitator, vocal. Great size and length from the guard spot.  3.2 gpa

 

Charlie O’Sullivan (2025) 6’10 forward - This Bronx native big man is a plus 3 point shooter, nearly 50% last season. Improved back-to-basket instincts. Improved rebounder and defender. Smart player. 4.2 gpa

 

Shay John (2024) 6’7 forward - John is a high motor player from Queens, NY. He is relentless on glass. Rebounder out of area. Plus shot blocker, 1-5 defender. Plays with chip on shoulder. Capable catch and shoot to three. 3.6 gpa


Ian Abreu (2024) 6’4 guard - Abreu has good size and physical make up. He is a big factor in transition A tough defender. Improved shot maker. 3.5 gpa

 

Ben Bradford (2024) 6’5 guard - Bradford can really score it, at all three levels.  He is also a good rebounder on both ends, and a tough defender. 3.3 gpa

 

Allen Mordi (2024) 6’6 small forward - A strong inside-out player. Competes on both ends. Mordi is deceptively athletic. He can shoot to three and has a soft touch around the rim. 3.7 gpa


James Livingstone (2024) 6’5 guard - Livingstone is another one that can really shoot it.  He has good anticipation and instincts. Does the little stuff that teams need to win. He competes hard on both ends. 3.7 gpa

 

Grey Pierce (2027) 6’7 forward - This freshman is a skilled young player with lot of ability. Good instincts and competes on both ends.

 

Julien Price (2027) 6’2 guard -  Price is another youngster who will get invaluable experience playing with and against college bound upper classmen. He is already a skilled, play making guard. He is showing the ability to be consistent to three. Shifty in pick-n-roll and crafty around rim.
