Founded in 2013, Maspeth High serves 9-12th grade students and is located in the Elmont section of Queens. They expect all of their graduates to attend top four-year colleges and universities. Their boys varsity basketball team competes in the PSAL Queens AA Division.  Since the 2017-18 season, the team is coached by Dan Franchese . For this season Coach Franchese’s team will be featuring the following players:

Sean Lopez (2024) 5’10 point guard - Lopez is considered by Coach Franchese to be of the top lead guards in the City. He is able to dissect defenses with a high level IQ and a consistent 3 point shot. He is also a smart defensive player who uses his instincts to stay in front. Lopez has been the Maspeth leading scorer for the last two seasons along with being Top 10 in the Queens B in assists. He is currently being recruited by CUNYs. 4.0 gpa

Alex Weremiuk (2024) 6’3 wing - An extremely underrated wing in the city. High level athleticism that leads to an ability to play above the rim on both ends of the court. Gaining more consistency as a three point shooter with developing an ability to create for himself off the dribble. Should be a target of D2/D3 schools with his athleticism. 3.7 gpa

Pavle Avramovic (2024) 6’2 guard - A true big guard. Uses his size to his advantage as he is able to take contact and still create for himself and others. Excellent IQ and passing as he sees plays happening before they occur. Currently being looked at by CUNYs and SUNY schools. 3.1 gpa

Vuk Avramovic (2024) 6’2 wing - A physical wing. Much like his brother he is able to use his size and strength to his advantage but also has the necessary quick feet to stay in front of his man on the defensive end. Recruiting should pick up this season as he becomes a main part of the rotation.

Cris Guaba (2024) 6’4 forward - An athletic big man who makes his impact known on the defensive end of the court. Tough, physical rebounder with an ability to switch on to guards off screens. Still developing on the offensive side of the court but understands his strengths and role.

Nik Carvalho (2024) 5’11 guard - Came up from JV last year to become a valuable contributor playing some of his best games in the biggest matchups.  Plays his best off the ball with a consistent 3 point shot. Has good athleticism and length that allows him to keep guards in front of him. 3.7 gpa

Jeremy Arias (2025) 6’3 wing - Coach Franchese is expecting a big year from Aris as he has really developed over the last year. Has only been playing basketball competitively for two years but has a big potential due to his athleticism and consistent jump shot.

Dereon Cave (2025) 5’9 point guard - Cave has been on varsity since his freshman year developing his game for this upcoming season. Elite quickness with good wingspan. On offense has developed his ballhandling and ability to create for himself and others.
