2023 Staten Island Thanksgiving Classic Standouts

On November 23, we paid a visit to the College of Staten Island in Staten Island, for the 66th annual Thanksgiving Eve Basketball Classic, which is a game between two of the borough’s biggest rivals in Curtis High School and St. Peter’s Boys High School. In this game, St. Peter’s took advantage of their counterparts’ defense and ran away it. For the fourth year in a row, the Eagles would knock off the Warriors and hold the Mike Fiore Trophy. Here are the standouts from the game:


Jalen Munson 5-11, Shooting Guard, St. Peter’s High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is very shifty and is able to showcase his playmaking ability at all times. Is a great distributor, as he finds his teammates when they are open. Has the ability to get to the basket and is able to draw fouls, due to his quickness and get to the free throw line efficiently.


Mike Spisto 5-9, Point Guard, St. Peter’s High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to control the tempo of the game with his ability to lead the team. Whether it’s getting steals or taking off after receiving the outlet pass, he is flying down to the opposite end of the court. Is fearless when driving into the lane and will definitely score or dish it off to a streaking teammate.


Qadir Martin 6-6, Forward, St. Peter’s High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has the ability to play multiple positions on the floor, as he is able to put the ball on the floor and dribble like a guard, but is also able to muscle his way around the paint area. Has a long wingspan, which aids in him getting rebounds and blocking shots. Has the ability to throw down powerful dunks in the low post and can also shoot from the top of the key.


Jorel Monroe 6-5, Forward, St. Peter’s High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has the ability to play solid defense and use his length in the paint to snare rebounds. Is able to make hustle plays for his teammates when needed and steps up when opportunity arises. Is very skilled and has a nice shooting touch when in the key or on three-point range.


Maddox LaPierre 6-4, Forward, St. Peter’s High School, Class of 2024 - A player that can play both the two and three positions, as he is able to put the ball on the floor and has a great ability to pass the ball to his teammates. Is able to use his athleticism when going up to score in transition. Is able to make hustle plays and will go all-out on the defensive end for his team.


Alonzo Archbold 6-7, Forward, Curtis High School, Class of 2025 - A forward with a long wingspan that can make his presence felt on both ends of the floor. Has a long wingspan and can attack the basket with precision. Has great hands, which aid in him blocking shots and obtaining rebounds. Has the ability to shoot from the perimeter.


Jason Dixon, 5-10, Point Guard, Curtis High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has plenty of quickness when going downcourt and has the ability to slow down or speed up the tempo of the game for his team, depending on the situation. Is a fearless guard that is willing to take risks when it comes to getting his shots off. Has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates in an efficient manner.


Oscar Orengo, 5-8, Shooting Guard, Curtis High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that is able to hustle on both ends of the court and can attack in transition whenever he has the ability to drive in the lane. Is able to shoot three-pointers from the corner and will take a chance when it comes to hitting his shots.


Ethan Kaminsky, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Curtis High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt with his ability to drive into the lane and get by his defenders. Is always willing to take an open shot when he’s free from three-point range and has a nice shooting touch. Is able to dish the ball out to his teammates and put them in position to score.


Lamar Hardie, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Curtis High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that loves to take chances when it comes to scoring in transition. Is a player that likes to get after the ball when it comes to hustle plays, when it comes to obtaining steals and diving for loose balls. Is able to go up for rebounds and can outwork bigger and more stronger players.
