2023-24 Valley Central High Season Preview

Valley Central High School is a public high school located in Montgomery, New York, in the heart of Orange County. VC participates in the AA division in Section 9 and is coached by Frank Nutt, 5th season. Last season VC won the division and had a 13-7 record before falling to Warwick Valley in the sectional tournament. That team was led by Raysean Johnson, FDU commit and Jurell Taylor (New York Military Academy 24).

 

Key players for this year:


Donovan Davis (2024) - Davis is a 6’7 athletic rim runner who has expanded his game to include a smooth jump shot and expanded range. Defensively he is athletic and an instinctual rim protector. Davis will be a key factor on both ends this year for VC.


Armando Perez (2024) - Perez is a smooth shooter and secondary ball handler. He has improved his game attacking the rim and is a reliable scorer at all levels. He has improved his passing and making really nice reads coming off ball screens.


Shawn Magby (2026) - Magby is a big guard that can handle the ball and attack the rim with increasing consistency. He has improved his jump shot and is scoring at all 3 levels. He is a physical player and likes to play through contact.


Noah Ruiz (2025) - Ruiz is a primary ball handler and has shown increased poise and control in running the offense. He is an excellent defender and has shown increased basketball IQ since coming up from JV. He has improved his jump shot and will continue to be a key piece for Valley Central this year and next year.


Nasir Tratter (2025) - Tratter is an athletic guard who defends with the same intensity he attacks the basket. He has improved his ability to control his finishing and has added to his bag around the rim. Tratter is a gamer.


Tyler Persaud (2024) - Persaud is a low post presence with an increased role this year both defending the rim and commanding double teams in the paint.
