2024 PSAL Championship Top Performers

On Saturday, February 17, we got to the Fitzgerald Gymnasium on the campus of Queens College in Flushing, Queens for the PSAL Borough Championships, in which teams from The Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens all competed for the right to call themselves borough champions and get a higher seeding in the upcoming PSAL playoffs. On this date, we caught three of the four games.  For the borough of Brooklyn, it was Eagle Academy II vs. South Shore High. For Manhattan, it was Murry Bergtraum vs. Thurgood Marshall High. For the Bronx, it was and Eagle Academy I vs. James Monroe Campus. Here are the standouts from all three games:


Amir Dockery 5-11, Point Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2027- A guard that has plenty of poise and has great court vision. Is able to find ways to use his quickness on the court and can attack in transition. When driving to the basket, he is able to be a good finisher, due to his toughness and his will to score.


Jakai Sanders 6-3, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make great plays on the offensive end. Is a player that has the ability to drive to the basket and is a good finisher. Because of his ability to drive, he is great at drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line. Has excellent court vision and is able to distribute the ball to his teammates.


Sincere Folk 6-0, Point Guard, South Shore High School, Class of 2026 A guard that has the ability to make good passes and is a solid distributor on the floor for his teammates. Is very poised and mature, despite his youth and is able to be a true leader on the floor. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and is a good finisher.


Asher Elson 6-10, Forward, South Shore High School, Class of 2025 - A forward that has plenty of versatility when he is on the floor and is able to do big things for his teammates. Is a physical presence for his team and has the opportunity to make his presence felt on both ends of the court, due to his size. Is very dominant when going to the rim.


Demarjay Smith 5-10, Point Guard, Murry Bergtraum High School, Class of 2026 -A guard that is able to see the floor well and is a good playmaker on the court. Has the ability to move around on the floor and can attack in transition. Is able to get free to so that he can shoot from long range and can also shoot pull up jumpers.


Taquill Edmonds, 6-2, Shooting Guard, Murry Bergtraum High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make great plays on the floor and is able to score in bunches. Likes to drive to the basket and can create for himself. Is able to slow down the game and can make his presence felt with his shooting ability and his ability to finish at the basket.


Terrell Hood 6-1 Shooting Guard, Thurgood Marshall Academy, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to create for himself and can take over the game due to his craftiness. Has the ability to finish at the basket when in transition. Uses his dribble to get past the opposition to get to the cup and get to the hole. Is also a good shooter from the perimeter.


Abdou Mazou-Tahirou 6-9, Forward, Thurgood Marshall Academy, Class of 2025 - A forward that has great size and length and can attack in transition and has the ability to hold his own on the floor. Has the ability to block shots and uses his length to stymie the opposition. Has the ability to be a dominant force on the rim when it comes to the offensive end.


Al-Hassan Jallow 6-8, Forward, James Monroe Campus, Class of 2024- A forward that is a force on both ends of the floor and can attack the boards when it comes to obtaining rebounds. Uses his strength when it comes to boxing out in the low post. Has plenty of athleticism and is able to score with precision.


Amadou Barry 5-10, Point Guard, James Monroe Campus, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt with his guard play. Is very fearless when it comes to driving to the basket and is able to finish at the basket and draw fouls to get to the free thrown line. Has the ability to control the tempo on the floor.


John Harrington 6-3, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy I, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt on the offensive end. Has plenty of toughness, as he is able to defend on the floor against the opposition. Is a player that can score in multiple ways and has the ability to shoot from long range. Is able to muscle his way to the basket at all times.


Deandre Gibbs 6-2, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy I, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring in multiple ways on the floor. Is able to attack in transition and is able to fight through contact to get to the basket. Has a penchant for getting free on the wing and taking clutch shots that go in. Is very difficult to contain whenever he gets in his groove offensively.
