Rockaway Celtics is a Rockaway Beach, Queens based program. It was started in 2012, by Terrence Mullin, with two teams. Over the years, the program has expanded and now includes teams for grade 3 – 10. The program focuses on helping younger players develop the knowledge and basic skills needed to be competitive team players. As their players grow, the focus is on skill development,  but they start with a team-first style of play. The goal is for the players to be prepared to succeed at the high school level. The coaches John Moran, Joe Courtney and JoJo O’Grady work hard with the teams on the court while emphasizing the importance of the player’s ability to represent themselves properly in their communities and schools. They expect our players to be able to excel both on and off the court.

Hugh Fina (2028) point guard from Breezy Point, Queens- The dynamic point guard is extremely athletic and can make plays on both ends of the floor. Hugh’s tough-minded style along with ball handling and slick passes gives him the ability to set up his teammates for open shots. On the defensive end, his tenacity can upset any opponent. Hugh plans to attend Xaverian High this fall.

Jason Cipolla (2029) wing player from Queens - This talented young player continues to grow his game. Jason has the athleticism and skill set that make him a tough matchup for his opponents. He has also shown the willingness and determination to keep growing his game. Jason is ready to be a major contributor for his team this season.

Jake “Sully “Sullivan (2028) forward from Breezy Point, Queens- Sully has shown tremendous improvement this season. He continues to work hard and shows the dedication needed to improve. Sully is a proven shooter and is also an excellent teammate. He is someone the coaches appreciate for his excellent work ethic. Sully is scheduled to go to Chaminade High this fall.

Ty Duffy (2028) guard from Rockaway, Queens - This sharpshooter has the uncanny ability to knock down shots from all around the court. While sharp shooting and passing is his forte, Ty has shown steady improvement and dedication on the defensive side of the ball. His commitment and passion for this game is obvious when you watch him practice. Ty will be attending Xavier High this fall.

Finn Hastings (2028) Forward/Center from Floral Park, LI - Finn is new to the team and through the first few workouts has shown his coaches a great work ethic and the willingness to learn. His ability to defend, rebound and score have been extremely impressive. Finn’s upside is very high and early on has been relentless on both sides of the court. He will be attending Kellenberg High this fall.

Jack “The Captain” O’Grady (2028) Point Guard from Rockaway, Queens - Captain Jack is one the leaders of this tight knit bunch. The past few years, Jack has played the wing. This year he is transitioning to point guard, something he has been practicing and handling quite well. Jack is a good passer and defender while also knocking down threes. He will be joining his brother JoJo at Xavier High this fall.

Danny O’Connell (2028) wing player from Floral Park, LI - like Finn, Danny is new to this team and has shown a very solid skill set. He is extremely strong with the ball. When he gets into the lane, he has a very good shooting touch around the rim. Danny’s skills allow him to slash to the rim, which will create opportunities for himself and his teammates. He plans on attending St Francis Prep this fall.

Hughie Courtney (2028) wing player from Rockaway, Queens - Hughie has a well-balanced offensive game.  He can score at all three levels and has no fear attacking the basket. Hughie’s knowledge and understanding of the game help gain advantages against his opponents. One of his under the radar strengths is as a defensive rebounder. He will be attending Xavier High this fall.

Jack Hayes (2028) wing player from Breezy Point, Queens- Jack has really grown as a player the last couple of seasons. He has gotten bigger and stronger, and so has his game. Jack can score off the bounce in the paint or from outside. His rebounding strength also helps this team on the defensive side of the ball. Jack will be following in his brother Timmy’s footsteps and attending Xaverian High this fall.

David Graves (2028) guard from Rockaway, Queens - Every team needs one, and David is our go-to defensive stopper. His nonstop motor, toughness and smarts help him when it comes to defending another team’s top scorer. Over the past year, David has shown great improvement in his offensive game, as he prepares to join some of his other Celtic teammates at Xavier High this fall.

Mike “Big Mike” Chiarantano (2028) forward/center from Rockaway, Queens- Michael is a very good athlete who excels at the defensive side of the court. He has excellent rebounding instincts. Mike also has an innate ability to be in the right position to help on defense when it is needed. Offensively, Mike can score around the basket and has a knack for making the correct pass. He would be attending Xaverian High this fall.
