2024 CHSAA vs. PSAL Champions Challenge Top Performers

By David Cordova,

This past week, we paid a visit to the Steinberg Wellness Center on the campus of LIU Brooklyn in downtown Brooklyn for the inaugural CHSAA vs. PSAL Champions Challenge, in which the best teams from the public and Catholic school leagues matched up against each other in multiple classifications to stake the claim as the best of the best.

In the AA/4A division, nationally-ranked Archbishop Stepinac from White Plains (Westchester County), the CHSAA “AA” champions, would defeat Eagle Academy II, the PSAL 4A champion from Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, for the championship. In the A/3A division, Epic South, the PSAL 3A division champion from South Ozone Park, Queens, would defeat Monsignor McClancy, the CHSAA “A” champion from East Elmhurst Queens, for the championship. In the play-in game between the PSAL’s 1A and 2A schools, the higher classification’s champion, which was The Bronx’s own South Bronx Prep would end up defeating Gregorio Luperon High School, the champions from the lower classification out of the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. South Bronx Prep would end up playing against the CHSAA “B” champions, Regis High School, from the Upper East Side of Manhattan. In the end, it would be Regis that would end up winning the B/2A championship.
