The New York Renaissance, also known as the Rens, were the first black-owned, all-black, fully-professional basketball team in history, established in 1923. The present NY Renaissance focuses on continuing to turn amateurs into professionals - the right way. They are a youth development organization, created by filmmaker and playwright Dan Klores. Its foundation was sparked by a desire to set a new standard in a holistic approach to mentoring and educating hundreds of children from diverse backgrounds, ages 8-17. Their AAU teams and thrive at the highest level.

 

Their 17u team that is coached by veteran Oz Cross and they compete in the Nike EYBL circuit. His roster is as follows:

 

Ikenna Alozie (2026) 6’6 guard, Dream City Christian (AZ) - Alozie is a raw and powerful athlete. He creates pathways to the rim, and can finish in transition in acrobatic fashion. He is a drive-first, attacking threat.


Malachi Arrington (2025) 6’10 forward, Immaculate Conception High (NJ) - Arrington plays physical and tough-nosed basketball inside the paint. He fights effectively for the prime positions in the post.  Scores often off of the offensive rebound. On defense, he contests shots in an active and intimidating fashion.


Tacko Fawaz (2025) 6’11 forward, Dream City Christian (AZ) - A high major big man who controls the paint on both ends of the floor. A good rim-protector and very good rebounder who plays with great energy and motor.


Brandon Lee (2025) 6’4 guard, The Patrick School (NJ) - Lee is a dynamic shooter with a quick release off the catch, plus he’s a capable shotmaker inside the arc. He moves well without the ball. He is a strong and well-built slasher who can work past and over smaller guards.


Alier Maluk (2025) 6’10 forward, Long Island Lutheran - Maluk has athleticism,  and runs rim to rim. He puts up big numbers, using a variety of skills, including a nice touch from mid range and beyond the arc,


Brandon Stores Jr. (2025) 6’4 guard, St Raymond High (Georgia Tech commit) - Stores is hard to guard. He sees over smaller defenders, and that combines with the significant elevation on his jump shots.


Tai Turnage (2025) 5’11 point guard, St Raymond High - Turnage is a speedy, coach’s son, lead guard whose agility makes him a nightmare for defenders. He possesses a lethal shooting touch off the dribble, especially from long range, often catching opponents off guard with his quick release. Turnage facilitating offense by creating opportunities for his teammates.
