2024 NY vs. NY Top Performers Week 2

On Tuesday, June 25, we rolled on to Gershwin Park in the East New York section of Brooklyn for the second stop of NY vs. NY, as there were two games that were played on that night. In the first game, the Bronx-based Watson Classic routed the Harlem-based Tri-State Classic. In the second game, the home-team, Gersh Park, the defending champions, battled it out with the Queens-based Lincoln Park Classic and emerged victorious on their home court on banner night. Here are the standouts from Week 2:
Zoumana Traore 6-7, Forward, Millbrook School, Team Watson, Class of 2025 - A forward that is very athletic and has the ability to use his length and skills to his advantage. Has a penchant for obtaining rebounds and is able to put the ball on the floor. Is known for throwing down powerful dunks when going to the rim.
Casey Williams, 6-7, Forward, The Skill Factory (GA), Team Watson, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to use his athleticism when he’s on the floor and is a huge asset for his team on the defensive end. Is great at finishing at the rim when going towards the basket. Is great at crashing the boards for rebounds and loves to run down court when on the fast break.
Ben Ahmed 6-10, Forward, Putnam Science Academy, Team Watson, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to hold his own in the post area and has a good presence when on the defensive end. Has a penchant for blocking shots and getting to the boards for rebounds. Has the ability to make power moves on the offensive end and is a strong finisher when at the basket.
Kaelen Destin 6-1, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Team Tri-State, Class of 2025 - A guard that has plenty of energy and is able to fill up the stat sheet when on the court. Is able to use his speed when going down court and is able to fly to the basket, where he finishes efficiently. Is able to pull-up for jumpers at the top of the key and sink them. Is also a player that can distribute the ball to his teammates and put them in position to score.
Montana Wheeler, 5-7, Point Guard, Houston Christian High School (TX), Team Tri-State, Class of 2025 - A guard that is very shifty and is able to get past defenders off the dribble. Is a good defensive player that has the ability to get steals and can find his teammates and put them in position to score. Has a penchant for using his speed to get past his defenders.
Christian Jeffrey, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Mount Zion Academy (MD), Gersh Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that is able to make his presence felt in many ways on the court. Has a penchant for getting open and catching the ball and getting his shot off at the top of the key. Loves to drive to the basket and uses his physicality to draw fouls and get to the free-throw line. Is able to outwork the opposition on the boards in order to obtain rebounds.
Jakai Sanders 6-2, Point Guard, Phhoenix Prep School (AZ), Gersh Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to score in bunches when on the floor. Uses his quickness to his advantage to finish in transition. Has a nice shooting touch from three-point range and is very active on the boards.
Connor Sprattley 5-11, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson Educational Campus, Gersh Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt at all times with his ability to get to the basket with ease. Likes to pull up from three and can finish at the basket. Will box out and outwork the opposition to get rebounds and will get downcourt afterwards.
Taj Bryant 6-2, Point Guard, The Patrick School (NJ), Lincoln Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring at will and finds ways to get to the basket. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates and put them in position to score at all times. Is a good finisher when going to the basket. Is able to shoot from long range.
Jeremiah Webb 5-11, Point Guard, Wyandanch High School, Lincoln Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that is quick and deceptive and is always looking to get his teammates involved in the offense. Is able to control the team’s tempo and is able to think about whether to dish it out or take the shot. Will find ways to get to the free-throw line. Does not hesitate to crash the boards to obtain rebounds.
Mohamed Diaby 6-7, Forward, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Lincoln Park, Class of 2024 - A forward that is strong and mobile and able to do plenty in the low-post area. Is very strong and agile and uses his length to block shots and obtain rebounds in the low post. Uses his strength to absorb contact and draw fouls to get to the free-throw line, where he is a good shooter.
