2024 NY vs. NY Quarterfinals Top Performers

On Tuesday, July 30, RecruitTheBronx.com paid a visit to Parque de Los Ninos Playground in the Soundview section of The Bronx for the quarterfinals of NY vs. NY, in which all four teams would play in order to advance to the semifinals, which will be played at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Saturday, August 10th. In the quarterfinals, the Tri-State Classic won convincingly over West 4th Street and in the nightcap, Dyckman won a close and crucial game against the Lincoln Park Classic to advance to the next round. Here are the standouts from Tuesday night’s action:


Matthew Gilhool 6-10, Forward, William Penn Charter School, West 4th Street, Class of 2025 - A forward that is very skilled and is able to put the ball on the floor. Has a nice shooting touch, which he uses to his advantage when he’s on the perimeter. Is a very athletic player that will obtain rebounds and can also finish at the rim.


Tai Turnage 6-0, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, West 4th Street, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt in the backcourt with his ability to distribute the ball and get his teammates involved. Has a penchant for taking chances on certain shots. Is also a player that has great court vision and is a good decision-maker.


Kaelen Destin 6-1, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Tri-State Classic, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make clutch shots from various places on the floor. Is a player that likes to play an uptempo game on the floor and is able to make tough shots from long range as well as finish in transition. Has great energy on the floor and always looks to create for himself on the offensive end.


Yandel German 5-10, Point Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Tri-State Classic, Class of 2027 - A guard that is able to see where his teammates are moving at both ends of the floor. Is a great defensive presence and is able to stick with his man whenever the opposition is on the move. Has the ability to use his speed when going to the basket.


Mabilmawut Kon Mabil 6-11, Forward, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Tri-State Classic, Class of 2025 - A forward that has a strong presence on the floor and has the ability to be a force for his team. Uses his length and his size to his advantage, as he is able to obtain plenty of shots and blocks when in the post area. Is very aggressive when in the low post area and throws down powerful dunks.


Brandon Lee 6-3, Shooting Guard, The Patrick School (NJ), Dyckman, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt with his ability to score in bunches. Has a penchant for shooting from long range. Is able to attack the basket when driving into the lane, as well as finishing at the basket.


Adrian Brito, 6-6, Forward, Pocono Mountain West High School (PA), Dyckman, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to hold his own on the floor. Has plenty of versatility, as he has a smooth game and has a nice shooting touch when he’s on the perimeter. Has plenty of strength and has the ability to obtain rebounds when the ball goes up.


Parrish Edmond, Jr. 6-4, Shooting Guard, Putnam Science Academy, Dyckman, Class of 2026 - A guard that has plenty of energy and athleticism when he’s on the floor. Is a player that is able to drive to the basket and throw down emphatic dunks. Has the ability to outwork the opposition and will attack the glass for rebounds at all times. Is able to drive to the basket and


Taj Walters 6-5, Forward, Greenwich Country Day School, Dyckman, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to drive in transition and has the ability to finish in transition. Has a penchant for outworking the opposition for rebounds and is able to use his strength when it comes to going to the basket and finishing and drawing fouls. Has a nice shooting touch, as he is able to shoot from the perimeter.


Adam Tambedou, 6-7, Springfield Commonwealth Academy (MA), Lincoln Park Classic, Class of 2026 - A forward that has plenty of strength & explosiveness on both ends of the court. Is a player that can drive to the basket and is a force in the post and is able to score. Is able to make hustle plays on the court and is able to block shots.


Nigel James, Jr. 6-0, Point Guard, Long Island Lutheran High School, Lincoln Park Classic, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt with his offensive play and his quickness on the floor. Has the ability to control the tempo of the game whenever he has the ball when he is bringing it up. Has the ability to drive to the basket and is able to finish in transition.
