2024-25 Wings Academy Season Preview
In 1994, the New York City Department of Education sponsored the first systemic effort to redesign a large high school in the Bronx. Wings Academy was one of five pioneering small schools resulting from that effort, founded on the premise of helping young people use their minds well. Their boys basketball team competes in the Manhattan/Bronx AAAA Division. Jabor Forde is stepping into the head coaching role, starting this season. As the new head coach at Wings Academy, he is focused on changing the culture and turning things around. Last season, the varsity team struggled with a 6-18 record, but with new players and an improved staff, Coach Forde is confident Wings wil be competing for the Bronx title this season. Last year, in his first year coaching, he led the JV squad to the city championship game with a 21-4 record. He is now bringing that same energy and focus to the varsity level. His new coaching staff includes Jamie Harris (former Wings/Drexel alumni), Terryence Wilson, and Mario Bright. They are ready to make a strong impact this year.
The team will be running an Open Gym schedule this fall and encourage college scouts to attend.
Below are the key players that they will be relying on.
Rushawn Greene (2025) 5’10 point guard - Greene was the leading scorer in the Bronx PSAL 4A last season, averaging 19.3 points per game. He’s expected to be even better this year and will likely be one of the top players in the city. With a 3.7 gpa, he’s also a leader in the classroom. Low D1 and high D2 schools should be paying close attention.
Mohamed Bah (2025) 6’2 guard - Bah is the heart of the team with his relentless attack mindset and tough defense. He averaged 12 points per game on last year’s varsity team and brings valuable veteran presence to both the locker room and the court. Bah’s intensity on both ends of the floor sets the tone for the team, making him a key player this season. He’s the kind of player who leads by example, pushing his teammates to match his energy and effort every day.
Emmanuel “Manny” Nieves (2026) 5’10 point guard - Nieves is the team’s best distributor, known for his high basketball IQ. Last season, he led the JV team to the city title game, scoring 30 points in the final. He also led the PSAL in assists, averaging over 10 per game. Unselfish and a true team player, he’s set to be one of the best juniors in the PSAL. His court vision and ability to make the right play at the right time make him the engine that drives the team’s offense.
Deshawn Carnegie Jr. (2027) 6’0 guard - Carnegie is a big, stocky guard with a Khalid El-Amin-like frame and unlimited shooting range. Last season on JV, he had multiple games with 10+ threes and even a 40-point game. He’s already making a name for himself in summer tournaments, and there’s much more to come. His combination of size, strength, and shooting ability makes him a unique threat on the court, capable of taking over games at any moment.
Fabian Jimbo (2026) 6’5 forward - Jimbo is a player who will surprise many this season. He’s a versatile forward who can score, rebound, and pass, making him a key piece for us this year. He is a force in the paint, capable of bullying any big man he faces, but he also has the skill to step out and make plays from the perimeter. His ability to impact the game in multiple ways makes him a matchup problem for opponents.
Craig Yancey (2027) 6’0 guard - Yancey, a transfer from Eagle Academy Harlem, is one of the toughest players in the Bronx despite being the youngest on the team. He plays AAU with Castle Athletics 15u and is relentless on defense while also being a reliable shooter. His fearlessness and energy make him a player to watch as he quickly adapts to varsity competition. His maturity on the court and willingness to take on any challenge will make him a key contributor, even as an underclassman.
Kamrin Kendall (2025) 6’5 forward - Kendall, a transfer from Truman High School, averaged nearly a double-double last season. He’s very athletic with a close to 40-inch vertical, and his potential is sky-high. With his combination of size and athleticism, Kendall is expected to be a dominant force on both ends of the floor. His ability to finish above the rim and protect the paint will be crucial for us this season.
Jhoan Adames (2025) 6’6 small forward - Adames is a transfer from Dewitt Clinton High School. He can stretch the floor with his mid-range game and is built like a grown man. Expect him to average close to a double-double this season. His physical presence and ability to score inside and out make him a matchup nightmare for opponents. Adames’ combination of strength, skill, and experience will be a significant asset for Wings.
