Curtis High 2024-25 Season Preview
Curtis High School is one of seven public high schools located in Staten Island. It was founded in 1904, the first high school on Staten Island.
The boys varsity basketball team competes in the 4A Brooklyn/Staten Island Division 2 conference of the New York City Public School Athletic League. The team is coached by Dwayne Archbold in his 10th year at the helm. After a disappointing 2023-24 season, Curtis High and Coach Archbold are looking to rebound with 8 returning Varsity players and 3 newcomers.
Alonzo Archbold (2026) 6’8, 190 lbs, forward -One of the top players in the PSAL. Averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds 3 assists & 3 blocks as a sophomore. Leading scorer in Brooklyn/Staten Island II division. Looks to improve on those numbers and lead his team to the PSAL playoffs and NYC PSAL Championship
Jason Dixon (2025) 5’10, 140 lbs guard - A returning starter, who has improved over the summer and is looking to improve after averaging 9 ppg and 3 apg in 23-24. Slasher who can get to the basket and knock down the open jumper when needed.
Lamar Hardie (2025) 6’1, 170lbs, wing -A 2023-24 6 ppg 3 rpg player who also has improved after a strong AAU season. One season of varsity experience has him understanding what needs to be done. Jump shot has improved as well as his ball handling and confidence.
Makhiye Washington (2027) 6’1, 140lbs, guard - 1st year varsity player after a strong freshman campaign on the JV level. Projected starter who is a slasher, can handle the ball and has a strong basketball iQ. Development could be key to the Warriors season and how far they go.
Ty Ray Spencer (2025) 6’2, 150lb, guard - A MSIT transfer who averaged 20 ppg in the Staten Island 3A division. Projected starter who looks to come in and combine with Archbold, Dixon & Co. to compete in the tough Brooklyn/Staten Island II division. Another key to the success of the Curtis Warriors this season.
Divine Wright (2026) 6’2, 160lbs, wing - This junior who saw minutes on the varsity level as a sophomore and looks to compete for solid minutes. Can knock down the open jumper and physical on the offensive and defensive boards.
Ryan Burgos (2025) 5’8, 140lbs, point guard - A transfer from Our Savior Lutheran School who looks to compete for a starting spot. Heady PG who understands the game and can push the tempo as well knock down open shots. Another key component to the success of the Warriors.
Seniors Lucas Kinard, Mark Militar and Juniors Oscar Orengo and Curtis Tiu look to compete for minutes as well. Senior Evan Dukes is a 2 year varsity player who is a scholarship football player who may return to play basketball his senior year. If he joins the squad, this will be an enormous addition to the Warriors already deep roster.
