Bedford High School is a public school located on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn. It serves 381 students in grades 9-12. Its boys varsity basketball team competes in Division AAA - Brooklyn III


The team is coached by a New York City scoring legend, Robert Phelps. Phelps led the city in scoring at Nazareth High in 1990 (he is 11th all time in scoring in New York State history with 2,477 points) and earned a scholarship to Providence College, helping the Friars win the Big East Tournament in 1994.


Bedford Academy will be running an Open Gym schedule this Fall for college scouts to attend.

 

Below, we profile the key players on the 2024-25 Bedford Academy team.


Dakota Harrison (2025) 6’1 guard - (Captain) A four-year letterman, Harrison is an aggressive guard known for his lethal three-point shooting and smooth midrange pull-up. His relentless defensive pressure makes him a coach’s dream. Harrison excels not only on the court but also in the classroom and in his community. He is a model teammate, embodying hard work and dedication.


Robert Phelps Jr. (2025) 6’5 guard - With immense potential, Phelps is a silky smooth player who leads the team in scoring and rebounding. His ability to finish with both hands around the basket, combined with his exceptional footwork, allows him to score with ease. His ability to get to the basket causes him to often visit the free throw line. At just 16 years old, this senior has room to grow physically and in his game, and he remains strong academically.


Kai Kudovault (2025) 6’1 guard - Kudovault is the team’s spark plug, bringing energy and athleticism to every game. His speed with and without the ball is impressive, and he’s a tenacious on-ball defender. Kudovault attacks the rim with force and has solid footwork for his midrange jumpers. His leadership, coachability, and relentless work ethic make him an invaluable asset to the team.


Aiden Milien (2026) 6’2 guard - Milien is a highly intelligent guard with exceptional communication skills. A respected team leader, he can attack the basket or pull up for a jump shot with ease. Milien has significant upside athletically, with the potential to grow to 6’4 or 6’5. He is a steady presence both on and off the court, excelling as a student-athlete.


Levi Dougherty (2026) 5’9 guard - Dougherty is a high-IQ player known for his deadly three-point shooting. His improved ball-handling and strength over the summer have made him an even bigger threat. Dougherty is a great communicator and an outstanding teammate with unlimited range, making him a constant scoring threat from anywhere on the court.


Jaylen Henlon (2026) 6’0 guard - Henlon is a rare defensive specialist who takes pride in shutting down the opposing team’s top scorers. He has added muscle over the summer, making him an even more formidable defender. Henlon moves well without the ball and attacks the basket with force, creating headaches for his opponents on both ends of the floor.


Sebastian Harding (2026) 5’9 guard - Harding is a versatile two-way player, known for his tenacious on-ball defense and scoring ability. He can drain long-range threes, knock down midrange jumpers, and finish at the basket with ease. His greatest strength lies in his playmaking, constantly creating opportunities for his teammates. A coachable student-athlete, Harding is a player to watch.


Preston Kilkenny (2025) 6’2 shooting guard - Kilkenny’s shooting ability stretches the floor for his team. He is a catch-and-shoot specialist, particularly from beyond the arc, making him a valuable asset for spacing and knocking down critical shots from long range.


Sean Dawson (2026) 6’0 guard - In his first year on varsity, Dawson has already made a strong impression on the coaching staff. A quick learner and highly coachable player, he has shown promise over the summer and has the potential to make a significant impact on the team this season.
