2024 St. John’s Prep Open Gym Top Performers

On Thursday, September 12, RecruitTheBronx.com got to St. John’s Preparatory School in Astoria, Queens for the program’s Open Gym run, as the team prepared for the upcoming season. Last season, the Red Storm were the finalists in the CHSAA B division as they made it to the championship game. This year, they will be moving up to the A division and are back with some new personnel on the squad. The team is head coached by veteran John Kiggins who will be entering his 7th season at the helm. Below are the standouts from the Open Gym run.


Jacob Gomez 5-11, Shooting Guard, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to see the floor and is able to get downcourt with ease. Is able to finish at the basket and is fearless when it comes to absorbing contact. Has a penchant for shooting from long range.


Patrick Rouse 6-6, Forward, Class of 2025 - A forward that is very active when he’s on the floor in various areas of the court. Has the ability to obtain rebounds and can block shots, showcasing his ability to be active on the defensive end. Has the ability to showcase his explosiveness and can finish at the rim.


Da’Quan Bryant 5-9, Point Guard, Class of 2026 - A guard that has plenty of quickness and is able to showcase his court vision on the floor. Is able to run the offense smoothly and can get past the opposition to get to the hole. Has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates so that they can score.


Ryan Edwards 6-3, Shooting Guard, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt in various ways on the court. Is able to beat the opposition off the dribble and is able to attack the basket when in transition. Is able to hit pull up jumpers when the opportunity presents itself.


Kawan Tucker 6-3, Shooting Guard, Class of 2027 - A guard that has plenty of length and can also play multiple positions and can also play on the wing. Has the ability to attack in transition and is also a good finisher when going to the basket. Has the ability to run on the fast break.


Kayden Khan, 5-7, Shooting Guard, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt on the court. Has the ability to use his quickness when he’s on the offensive end. Is able to finish efficiently when going to the basket or when shooting mid-range jumpers.


Matthew Abreu, 5-7, Point Guard, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to bring plenty of energy and hustle when he’s on the court. Is fearless when playing defense, as he’s always able to get to the ball and obtain a steal. Knows when to attack on the offensive end, as is able to absorb contact when driving to the basket.


Octavius Green, 5-11, Point Guard, Class of 2027 - A guard that has the ability to run a team and is able to provide plenty of scoring when needed. Loves to drive to the basket and is a good finisher in the lane. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates when the opportunity presents itself.


Blake Williams, 6-5, Forward, Class of 2025 - A forward that is able to establish his presence with his length and his toughness when in the post area. Is able to use his physicality when going up for rebounds. Is able to outwork and outmuscle his opponents on both ends of the court, especially when finishing on the offensive end.


Chase Inniss, 6-5, Forward, Class of 2025 - A forward that is active on the court and is able to be active on the floor. Is able to outwork his opponents for rebounds and loose balls. Is able to absorb contact when trying to finish at the basket.
