2024-25 Masters School - New York Player Profiles

The Masters School is a rigorous, college preparatory, five and seven-day boarding and day school located on 96 acres, 12 miles north of New York City.

The boys varsity basketball team is coached by Joey Kuhl. Kuhl had previously coached in the NBA’s G League, at the Air Force Academy and at Iona College.

The team competes in a local conference, the Fairchester Athletic Association, and they also compete across New England to land a possible postseason tournament bid in the college-bound player-rich NEPSAC Class A.

Below we profile the 2024-25 players.


Azzan Thomas (2025) 5’10 guard - Thomas is a starting guard who is quick and shifty with the basketball. He is competitive and is a tough defender. Thomas is a good 3pt shooter, especially off the dribble.


Jonathan Mafuru (2025) 6’5 small forward - Mafuru is a tough and strong forward. He is also a good shot blocker and rebounder. 3.7 gpa


Eddie Tam (2025) 5’11 guard - Tam is a tough defender with a high bball IQ. A competitor. 


Samson Mines (2025) 6’2 small forward - Mines is a playmaking wing/forward with a solid jump shot. Good passer and able to guard 3-5.


Omari Levy (2026) 6’5 wing - Levy is an athletic and competitive guard. He is a scorer at all 3 levels and good playmaker for others. Levy is a disruptive defender who creates turnovers and excels in both team and individual defense. For the 2023-24 he was the team’s leading rebounder ... from wing as a sophomore. Honorable Mention All-FAA as a sophomore. Averaged 14.5 ppg and 8.1 rebounds/game. 3.3 gpa


Luc Brongniart (2026) 6’8 forward - Brongniart is a skilled forward that can play the 4 or 5. He is an elite 3pt shooter and a good 1 on 1 scorer from both the post or the perimeter. He is a strong and physical rebounder. High potential player. Brongniart transferred into Masters from Clarkstown South where he made 1st Team All-Conference, averaging 17.5 ppg and 9 rebs/game.


Veljko Stanic (2026) 6’5 wing - Stanic is a skilled wing who excels as a 3pt shooter. He has an elite shooting touch off of the catch or the bounce. He is aggressive to score and is competitive on both ends of the floor.


Hudson Rodriguez (2026) 6’2 guard - Rodriguez is a high level shooter and scorer. He is skilled and can get his shot off at all 3 levels. He transferred in from Iona Prep. 4.0 gpa


John Curley (2026) 6’2 guard - Curley is an elite 3pt shooter. As defenders attempt to closeout that lethal weapon, Curley then becomes a good blow-by playmaker. Curley has a good wingspan which aids his prowess as being a tough defender. Plays AAU with Riverside Hawks Select.  Good gpa


Jake Raab (2026) 5’10 guard - Raab uses a “heart-over-height” toughness to be a starting guard for Masters.  He is a scrappy defender who plays with intensity and consistency. Raab is also an elite 3pt shooter.


Ben MacLean (2026) 6’6 forward -Maclean is a strong and physical forward. He is a good rebounder and makes the tough plays. He is a hard worker, both on court and in weight room. MacLean transferred from Mamaroneck High.
