2025 Peekskill Black History Month Showcase

On Saturday, February 1, we shot up to Peekskill High School in Peekskill, NY for their Black History Month Showcase. The event featured ten of the top schools in New York, Section 1 playing against one another for a good cause. We caught the final two games, where Mamaroneck High played The Bronx’s own DeWitt Clinton and the host team, Peekskill played against Poughkeepsie High. There was some great competition in both games. Below are the standouts from the final two games of the day.

Brandon Burrell 6-1, Shooting Guard, Mamaroneck High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that is able to hold his own in a variety of ways on the court. Is a player that can create for himself off the dribble and is known for his scoring prowess. Is a player that loves to catch and shoot & is able to get his shot off efficiently when he shoots from three-point range.

Jonny Smath, 6-0, Shooting Guard, Mamaroneck High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that likes to crash the boards and is always alert when the opportunity arises. Has a penchant for getting open and shooting at a high volume. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and finishing strongly.

Kion Danso 5-10, Point Guard, DeWitt Clinton Educational Campus, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to control the tempo of the offense whenever he has the ball in his hands. Is known for running a fast-break offense and getting past the defense in order to get to basket with ease. Has the ability to shoot from long range.

Josiah Davis 6-5, Forward, DeWitt Clinton Educational Campus, Class of 2026 - A forward that has great size and can pose a problem for smaller lineups due to his length. Is very active and is prone to obtaining rebounds when he’s in the low post. Is able to put the ball on the floor and loves to drive to the basket. Is also known for hitting mid-range jumpers.

Gabriel Rodriguez, 6-6, Forward, DeWitt Clinton Educational Campus, Class of 2026 - A forward that is known for doing the dirty work in the post area. Is able to outwork or outmuscle the opposition when it comes to obtaining rebounds. Is able to use his physicality when it comes to him going up for a basket.

Jaden Chavis 6-6, Forward, Peekskill High School, Class of 2025 - A forward that has plenty of guard skills when on the floor. Is able to make smooth moves with the ball when going into the lane. Is able to knock down jumpers when the opportunity presents itself. Is a player that is able to score in bunches.

Isaiah Crawford, 5-11, Shooting Guard, Peekskill High School, Class of 2025 - A guard with plenty of quickness that is able to bring speed to his team. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates when the opportunity presents itself. Is able to get his shot off efficiently from long range.

Jo-Jo Brickhouse, 5-7, Point Guard, Peekskill High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt when it comes to running the offense. Has the ability to see the floor and put his teammates in the right position to score. Is known for hitting jumpers in crucial moments.

Victor Nelson 5-10, Shooting Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has a penchant for producing in crucial moments. Has the ability to shoot from long range and can attack in transition. Is able to drive to the basket and finish efficiently with strength. Is able to hit mid-range jumpers as well as slice and dice his way to the basket.

Tyrone Dubose, 5-10, Point Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that is known for his ability to run a team and also play solid defense. Is a player that will make his presence felt with his quickness and ability to find his teammates as a way to get them in position to score. Is a true competitor, as he is able to make the right plays to serve his team.

Kaiden Birdsong 5-10, Shooting Guard, Poughkeepsie High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that brings a much-needed energy to his team whenever he is on the court. Is able to stick to his man on the defensive end, which aids in him obtaining steals. Has the ability to shoot from long range, especially when left open. Is a great finisher when he goes to the basket.
