2025 Next Best 8th Grader Showcase Top Performers

On Saturday, April 5, two former college basketball players Drew Sawyer and Jordan Pettway hosted the 2025 Next Best Showcase for high potential Connecticut 8th graders at Weston High School (CT). Their crew of coaches and former players ran drills, gave coaching tips and hosted game play.
The following players drew notice from the showcase coaches for their strong play.
Julian “JJ” Smith Jr. (2029) 6’1 combo guard, Waterbury, CT. Smith was named the showcase’s MVP and showed why he is one of the top players in his class. A big guard who uses his athleticism and strength to get to the basket with ease (as well as on the defensive end). Showing poise around the rim and the ability to create shots for himself. Allowing him to score at a high clip. Plays AAU with NY Lightning
Will Akason (2029) 6’5 forward, Weston, CT - The big man with a soft touch. Will displayed his all-around game throughout the day. At the forward/center position, he seemed comfortable putting the ball on the floor. While showing his traditional big man attributes with his back to the basket and patience around the rim. Plays AAU with NY Rens.
Brody Agee (2029) 5’6 point guard, Madison, CT - A small guard who embodies the “heart over height” slogan. Agee, a true point, got his teammates involved but knew when it was time to score. He has a quick release, money jumper that draws the defensive respect, but then he is not afraid to attack the basket when they do. Plays AAU with NY Rens
Tristan Sullivan (2029) 5’8 point guard, Norwalk, CT - An all-around point guard who lets the game come to him. Sullivan showcased his crisp handle which opens up his game to finish at the rim and knock down the 3 ball at an efficient rate. Attends Fairchester Athletic Association power, St Luke’s School.
Jonathan SSenyonjo and Lucas Ssenyonjo (2029) 5’10 guard, Milford, CT - These two brothers have smooth offensive games and showcase their ability to score the ball. They also get it done on the defensive end. Contesting shots at the rim and using their strength to secure the perimeter. Play AAU with Riverside Hawks.
Teo Reyes (2029) 5’10 guard, Norwalk, CT - A wiry combo guard with a good feel for the game. Using his length as an extended asset along with the ability to adapt around the basket when needed. Plays AAU with CT Blazers.
Dylan Lender (2029) 6’2 small forward, Weston, CT - Lender displayed a polished offensive arsenal. He has a smooth shot and uses his outside shot making as a tool to open up his attack-the-paint game. Plays AAU with PHD Basketball.
PJ Candito (2029) 5’7 point guard, Norwalk, CT - Setting the tone on the defensive end, PJ provided a spark of energy throughout the showcase. Using his defensive tenacity to create his offense. Attacking the basket with strength and efficiency. Plays AAU with New York Lightning.
Andrew Farhat (2029) 5’7 guard, Weston, CT - A versatile guard who plays with a great pace and IQ. Offensively, he is an efficient scorer, with the ability to create his own shots and facilitate for his teammates. He is also a competitor on the defensive end. Plays AAU with CT Blazers
