2025 Smartball Classic Top Performers

On Tuesday night, August 19, we were courtside at Abraham Lincoln Playground in Harlem for the Smartball Classic, a single-elimination summer league tournament that features some of the best high school programs in New York City, New Jersey and Westchester County. On this night, there were two great games that took place as Cardinal Hayes (CHSAA) defeated Eagle Academy II (PSAL) in the opening game and in the nightcap, St. Raymond, which is last year’s CHSAA AA finalist defeated the defending PSAL AAA champions, Achievement First.
Below are the standouts from Tuesday night’s games.
Brice Yancey 6-0, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2028 - A guard that is able to hold his own and is able to be a true playmaker for his team. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates and puts them in position to score. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and is a strong finisher. Is able to create for himself off the dribble.
Malik Fields 6-3, Shooting Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring in bunches and can attack in transition. Has the ability to obtain rebounds and run down the court on a fast break. Is a great defender that is able to force the opposition into turnovers. Has a nice shooting touch from mid-range or from three-point range.
Nazier Campbell 6-3, Forward, Cardinal Hayes High School, Class of 2026 - A forward that has plenty of strength in the low post, as he is able to outwork other players in the paint. Is able to attack the glass when it comes to obtaining rebounds. Is able to make putback layups and can also throw down powerful dunks when goin up to score.
Amir Dockery 6-0, Point Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2027 - A guard that has the ability to see the floor efficiently and is a solid playmaker on the court. Has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates and put them in position to score. Has jet-like quickness that he uses to his advantage to get to the basket when it comes to scoring.
Richard Jackson, Jr. 6-1, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to make plays around the basket. Has a penchant for scoring in bunches and is able to finish in transition. Is able to create for himself off the dribble and has the ability to get his shot off efficiently when shooting from mid-range.
Gregory Reyes 6-6, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to hold his own on the court. Is a player that can shoot from long-range and from mid-range. Has plenty of length, which helps him on the defensive end when it comes to him obtaining steals and rebounds. Has a penchant for making strong finishes when going to the basket.
Tyler Romeo 6-0, Shooting Guard, Achievement First High School, Class of 2027 - A guard that has an electric game where he’s lights-out when it comes to his offensive prowess. Is very explosive when going to the basket, as he is a great finisher at the rim. Has plenty of speed when he is going downcourt on the offensive end. Has a nice shooting touch from multiple places on the floor.
Taiveon Anderson 5-10, Point Guard, Achievement First High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that is quick and shifty and is able to be a great distributor for his team, as he can put his teammates in position to score. Has a quick first step, as he has a knack for making good pull-up jumpers from mid-range. Is able to get to the basket with ease and is a strong finisher.
Juan Quinones 6-9, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2027 - A forward that has the ability to make his presence felt in the low-post, as he has the ability to hold his own on both ends of the court. Has the ability to block shots and corral rebounds. Is able to go to the basket and looks to finish with precision.
Luis Carillo-Moss 6-8, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2026 - A forward that has a smooth game and is able to be make plays on both ends of the court. Knows when to put the ball on the floor and muscle his way to the basket to finish efficiently. Has soft hands, which help him when it comes to floaters. Is a good rebounder that also likes to run on the fast break.
Ibrahima Camara 6-8, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2026 - A forward that is a great presence in the low post. On the offensive end, he is able to finish strong and is able to make putbacks. On the defensive end, he is able to outmuscle the opposition when it comes to obtaining rebounds and blocking shots.
Todd Arrington 5-9, Shooting Guard, St. Raymond High School, Class of 2029 - A guard that is able to do plenty of things when on the court. Is able to play strong defense, as he is able to force the opposition into turning over the ball, so that he can obtain steals. Is very crafty on the offensive end, as he is able to drive to the basket and finish in transition. Is known for shooting jumpers at a high-volume, especially for three-point range.
