Portledge School, located in Locust Valley on Long Island, is an independent college preparatory school that has been serving students since 1965. The Panthers compete in the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) and play a highly competitive independent schedule that features some of the top programs across the tri-state area. Head Coach Brandon Becker, an successful AAU coach for Empire Youth Athletics, will be entering his first year leading the varsity boys basketball program.


Below are the 2025-26 Portledge School player profiles.


Jack Loeffler (2026) 6’1 guard - A combo guard and three-year starter, Loeffler returns for his senior season as a high-academic college prospect. He shot over 40% from three last year, led the league in charges, and rebounds above his size. Offensively, he plays with pace, makes smart reads, and creates for others by playing off two feet in the lane. His IQ, leadership, and versatility have made him a priority recruit for D3 programs across the Northeast.  4.0 gpa


Josiah Warfield (2027) 6’2 guard - A versatile and fierce competitor, Warfield can defend full court, knock down threes, rebound, and create for teammates. He separates himself with his ability to generate his own shot, making him a constant offensive threat. A varsity contributor since 8th grade, he returns healthy after battling injuries last season and is poised for a breakout year. With his athleticism, skill, and toughness, Warfield is ready to become a breakout player and a household name across Long Island.  3.3 gpa


Carter Abrahams (2030) 6’1 guard - Abrahams is one of New York’s top young prospects. As an 8th grader, he was named Freshman Player of the Year by LongIslandBasketball.com after averaging 16 points per game and finishing top-5 on Long Island with 66 threes. A skilled scorer and facilitator, he can create his own shot while making plays for teammates. With college coaches already showing interest, Abrahams is poised to take another leap and solidify himself as one of the premier guards in his class.


Raj Singh (2027) 6’3 guard - Singh joins Portledge after an impressive run at MacArthur High, where he earned All-Conference honors. A knockdown shooter with deep range, he can score off the dribble, create for teammates, and space the floor at a high level. Defensively, his length and toughness allow him to guard multiple positions, making him a versatile weapon on both ends. A high-academic prospect with a strong work ethic, Singh brings the skill and mindset to make an immediate impact and elevate Portledge right away. 4.0 gpa


Shainil Shah (2026) 6’4 small forward- A versatile player who rebounds, passes, and spaces the floor as a consistent shooter. Defensively, his length and athleticism let him guard multiple positions, protect the rim, and disrupt opponents. With his two-way impact and winning mentality, he’ll be a key piece for Portledge in his senior season.


Sam Palagonia (2027) 6’0 guard - A tough, high-energy player whose defense and grit make him the ultimate glue guy for Portledge. After going down with an injury midway through last season, he returns hungry and ready to make his mark with relentless on-ball defense, rebounding above his size, and steady playmaking. His competitiveness and ability to do the little things will make him a key contributor and tone-setter this year.


Colin Aquilina (2030) 5’8 point guard - A dynamic young guard joining Portledge after competing with NY Lightning on the EYBL circuit. A true point guard, he plays with poise beyond his years—creating for teammates, controlling tempo, and making smart decisions. He can score at a high level, knock down shots and create his own offense. With his maturity and confidence, Colin is ready to make an immediate varsity impact and establish himself as one of Long Island’s top young guards.


Cody Strauss (2026) 6’0 guard - Strauss is a knockdown shooter who can change a game with his range. His ability to stretch the floor and his steady leadership will make him an important piece for Portledge this season.


Brendan Sweeney (2027) 6’3 small forward - Sweeney brings toughness, rebounding, and reliable finishing around the rim. He adds versatility by being able to stretch the floor as a capable shooter, while also providing defensive presence and physicality inside.
