The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball Charter High School opened in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx in 2021. It’s named for Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, the Knicks guard and four-time All-Star who was part of the 1973 championship team and is enshrined in the Naismith Hall of Fame. Monroe’s longtime friend Dan Klores, a Peabody Award-winning filmmaker is the founder and board chairman.  The school’s permanent home is a $35 million, 69,000-square-foot, five-story building in Mott Haven. It has roughly 30 regular and specialty classrooms and an 8,000-square-foot gym, designed to serve up to 440 students, all from the Bronx. It is the first specialized public high school with an academic curriculum designed entirely around basketball and the many career paths associated with the game. That includes journalism, marketing, nutrition, physical rehab, psychology, business, law, finance, in-arena entertainment, food services, personal representation, design, and data analytics. These concentrations are layered into a full New York State core curriculum.

The boys varsity basketball team competes in the City Schools Sports Association (CSSA) AA Division. They have won the league title for each of the past three seasons.

The team is coached by the Jared Rivers.
