Hamden Hall Country Day School is a coeducational private day school in Hamden, CT, educating students from preschool through grade 12. Founded in 1912 by Dr. John P. Cushing as the nation’s fourth country day school, Hamden Hall has been coeducational since 1927.  It enrolls roughly 700 students across three divisions on a campus less than two miles from Yale University.

The boys varsity basketball team competes in NEPSAC Class B (mid-size schools) and the Fairchester Athletic Association. Veteran college coach Sean Doherty is entering his tenth year at Hamden Hall, and he arrived with more than 20 years of collegiate experience. A Worcester, MA native and 1992 Worcester State graduate, Doherty began coaching at his alma mater in 1993 before moving to D2 Assumption College as a top assistant from 1994-98. He spent four seasons as associate head coach at Holy Cross from 1999-2003, helping the Crusaders to three consecutive Patriot League championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, followed by a stop at Western Kentucky. As head coach at Division III Salem State, he went 91-20 (.820) over four seasons with three NCAA Division III tournament berths, a 24-3 record in 2006-07, MASCAC regular-season and tournament titles, and MASCAC Coach of the Year honors in both 2003-04 and 2006-07. He then spent nine seasons as an assistant at Division I Quinnipiac from 2008-2017.

The transition to Hamden Hall was immediate. The Hornets won back-to-back Fairchester regular-season and playoff championships in Doherty’s first two years and qualified for the NEPSAC Class B tournament both seasons - going 20-5 in 2017-18, and then 25-2 in 2018-19 en route to the NEPSAC Class B Championship.
