Kent School (CT) 2026-27 Player Profiles

Kent School is a private Episcopal boarding and day, grades 9-12 plus post graduate located in Litchfield County, CT, on a 1,200-acre campus between the Appalachian Trail and the Housatonic River aabout 50 miles west-southwest from Hartford. Founded 1906 by the Anglo-Catholic Episcopal Reverend Frederick Herbert Sill. Sill wanted a school where “young men with slender means could gain an education second to none” - the opposite of the wealthy-elite boarding schools of the era. Kent was the first secondary school in the country to charge tuition on a sliding scale, and students did housework and farm labor regardless of family wealth. The school still leans on that heritage.
The school has a long alumni list running from High Major DI to high-academic D3 basketball players and frame their program as one of the better blends of on-court excellence and academic preparation in the country. In 2024-25, Tim McCarthy was appointed head coach of boys varsity basketball team after two years of an assistant coach there. Since McCarthy has taken the helm, Kent’s basketball program profile and college-prospect recruiting has taken a big leap upward. McCarthy played his college ball at Amherst College (‘22), where he was voted the team captain. Three-time NESCAC All-Academic selection and All-Sportsmanship Team as a senior. At Amherst, he contributed to the 2018 NESCAC Championship and a Sweet Sixteen run in the NCAA Tournament. Coach McCarthy’s stated philosophy centers on competitiveness, selflessness, and accountability - in his words, Kent players are pushed on and off the court to be “relentlessly competitive, unfailingly selfless, and accountable.”
