Mount Vernon High is a public high school located in the Chester Heights section of the City of Mount Vernon, Westchester County. Mount Vernon shares a border with the Bronx - the city’s southern line is the New York City line. The school’s enrollment is usually a little over 1,000 students.
The school’s basketball program has been prolific in producing high level talent. The alumni include greats such as Gus Williams, Ray Williams, Ben Gordon, Rodney McCray, Scooter McCray, Earl Tatum, Rudy Hackett, Lowes Moore, Richie Garner, Marlon Taylor. Rodney McCray was the No. 3 overall pick in the 1983 NBA draft.
The Mount Vernon team has been head coached by Bob Cimmino for 31 legendary years. Coach Cimmino Roughly 31 seasons. He has compiled over 600 wins , the most in New York Section 1 history. He has captured 19 sectional titles and eight state championships. He is a seven-time New York State Coach of the Year and was inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. He’s also coached American national teams in Canada, China and Germany.

Kaiden Tyler (2027) 5’7 point guard, team captain - Tyler is an all-star who has played back to back years for the BCANY Hudson Valley All Star Team. Cerebral baller who hits the 3 and loves to attack the foul line. 2-year captain who makes Mount Vernon go. Always comes up with 2 or 3 rebounds that he had no business getting to.
Tyrus Lee (2027) 6’2 guard, team captain - 2026 BCANY Hudson Valley Allstar. Lee is extremely athletic who thrives on locking down other team’s best player. Runs the floor well and enjoys attacking rim equally well with either hand.
Jayden Munroe (2027) 6’0 guard - 2026 BCANY Allstar. Munroe is a shooter. Exceptional from 3 point land. Plays hard on both ends of court. Enjoys going at the rim. Don’t leave him open from that 3 point line.
Cesar “C.J.” Tapia (2027) 6’3 guard - Tapia some great games this past summer. Mixes it up completely on offense. He will hit the outside shot, pull up in the paint, and also attack the rim fearlessly. Could become a great player. Senior at only 16 years old.
Chidi Nwachukwu (2027) 6’0 shooting guard -Nwachukwu plays hard and enjoys shooting the 3. Looking for a strong academic placement for his college balling.
Manny Martin (2027) 6’5 forward - Athletic player who works hard defensively. Runs the floor. Working on post moves.
Jamal Morrison (2028) 6’0 guard - Morrison shows flashes of brilliance from time to time. If consistency elevates, he could become a high level all star in Section 1. Hits the shot and attacks the rim.
David Sherwood Castillo (2029) 5’7 point guard- Castillo is a good shooter who is a student of the game. Big improvement in weight room. Could see significant minutes.
Stephen Ahiamadi (2029) 6’2 small forward- Strong with a decent shot from 3. Could be a breakout year. Ahimadi is also an academic star.
Michael Colley (2029) 6’6 forward - Colley will start for Mount Vernon at the 5. Wants to get better. Working hard in weight room. Willing to put the time in to be special.
