Mount St Michael Academy 2019-20 Season Preview

By Robert Pena,

The Mount Saint Michael Mountaineers are going to have a mix veteran players and young players this upcoming season and the coaching staff is hopeful that the players can jell as a team to win games. “We’re going to be young and inexperienced team at times, but we are athletic. I think once we get to February we are going to be pretty good.” per Coach Tim Fraher.

The Mountaineers’ key backcourt players are Tyler Hawkins and Noah Best. Hawkins is a 5’11 guard who transferred from Lincoln High School and led them in scoring last season. He is a really good penetrator and real good on-ball defender. Best is a 6’4 guard who averaged 6 ppg and 6 rebounds as freshman last season. He is a good rebounder and good shooter.

The front court players will be Ibrahim Wattara, Mazi Campbell and Mallik Pringell. Wattara is a 6’4 senior and returning starter who averaged 17 ppg with 10 rebounds. He’s a good defender and good shot blocker. Campbell is a senior and also returning starter that averaged 8 ppg with 7 rebounds. He shoots the ball really well and rebounds well. Pringell is a 6’1 senior and returning starter for the Mountaineers who averaged 5 ppg with 4 rebounds. He’s a good on-ball defender.

As for the key reserves this season Javoy Thompson and Chris Jenkins will be in that role. Thompson is a 6’4 freshman. Jenkins is 6’7 senior who averaged 3 ppg last season. “Jenkins, a big kid, will help us this year.” said Coach Fraher.

Ibrahim Wattara has received scholarship offers from St. Peters, Fairly Dickerson University and a lot of mid-major schools are looking at him. Malik Pringell and Mazi Campbell are getting D3 looks.
