DeWitt Clinton Campus is a public high school in the Bronx, founded in 1897. It is named after the man, who from 1798 through 1828, served as the Governor of New York, the Mayor of New York City, a US senator, a New York state senator and a member of the New York House of Representatives. During his tenure as governor, educational improvements were lobbied for; and art, history, and literary programs were initiated. Also, the Erie Canal was developed, which initiated the growth of cities along the canal.
