2023 Military Standard Cleaning Classic Top Performers

On the day after Christmas, we paid a visit to the House of Sports facility in Ardsley, New York for the Military Standard Cleaning High School Holiday Classic. The event is hosted by the Energizer Bunny of our region’s event operators, Lucky Brannon. In this event, Brannon hustled up teams from across the state in order to feature some of the best under-the-radar talent in the match ups. In the afternoon session, Long Island’s own St. John’s The Baptist played against Manhattan’s own Murry Bertram, Brooklyn’s own Canarsie High matched up with Forest Hills High from Queens. Monsignor Scanlan High from the Bronx matched up with Upstate New York’s Rome Free Academy. Here are the standouts from those three games:

 

Jeremiah Carter 6-3, Shooting Guard, St. John The Baptist High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that likes to make his presence felt on the court in many ways. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and is a great finisher in the lane. Is able to pull up on the perimeter and hit a clutch shot. Has the ability to find his teammates and can distribute the ball to his teammates at the right moments.


Steven Williams 6-0, St. John The Baptist High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that can also play the four or five position due to his strength. Has the ability to obtain rebounds by blocking out defenders around him and establishing his presence due to his strength. Has the ability to shoot from long range, especially when being heavily guarded.


Taquil Edmonds, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Murry Bergtraum High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is very tough and has the ability to make great plays when he is on the floor. Has a penchant for getting rebounds and then taking off on a fast break downcourt. Is able to come off of screens or create for himself on the offensive end.


Andrew Parrish 5-10, Point Guard, Murry Bergtraum High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a penchant for making his presence felt in many ways on the court. Has the ability to drive to the basket and has excellent court vision. Has the ability to set his teammates up with passes that can lead to baskets. Has a nice shooting stroke, which he uses often.

 

PJ Singleton 6-6, Forward Canarsie Educational Campus, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to be a playmaker on the floor. Has a penchant for taking over the game with his scoring and is able to make his presence felt with his shooting ability, as he can drain threes, especially when left open. Has the ability to attack the basket, especially when on the fast break.

 

Sean Johnson 6-0, Shooting Guard, Canarsie Educational Campus, Class of 2024 - A guard that is able to score in bunches, especially when left open on the perimeter. Has the ability to drive to the basket and is able to finish efficiently. Will definitely hold his own on the defensive end, as he sticks with his man at all times.

 

Xavier Francis 6-3, Forward, Canarsie Educational Campus, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a penchant for setting up his teammates for baskets when the opportunity arises. Is able to get his shot off when he’s on the wing and is fearless in transition. Has the ability to make his presence felt in the low post and is able to obtain rebounds and then kick it out to his teammates.

 

Pregnon Titi, 6-3, Forward, Forest Hills High School, Class of 2026 - An undersized forward who is skilled and can put the ball on the floor at all times. Is able to find ways to get open on the perimeter and will flash to the basket and finish at the basket. Is able to get rebounds and then flash downcourt and then speed off down court. Is able to finish through contact and is able to get to the free-throw line.

 

Jack Vazquez, 6-3, Shooting Guard, Forest Hills High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to create for himself on the offensive end. Is able to find ways to get open on the floor and is a high-volume shooter, who can hit threes, especially when left open. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and can finish with precision.

 

Kaleb Poppotte 6-2, Point Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has a penchant for leading his team and is a great playmaker on the court. Has the ability to see the floor efficiently and is a great distributor who can set his teammates up with opportunities to score. Has a penchant for shooting from the perimeter and can also drive to the baskets.

 

Nasir Rodriguez 6-6, Shooting Guard, Monsignor Scanlan High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has a penchant for making great plays on the court and has the ability and is always a key player for his team. Will step into the low post to obtain rebounds and has the strength to play like a big as far as taking contact. Has the ability to shoot from long range and is also great at driving to the basket and finishing efficiently.

 

Deandre Neal, 5-10, Point Guard, Rome Free Academy, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to use his quickness as an asset when on the floor. Has the ability to slice and dice past defenders on the fast break and is great at kicking it out to his teammates or finishing at the basket. Is able to shoot from three-point range and will take advantage of the opposition’s weaknesses. Is also able to get steals and turn them into scoring opportunities.

 

Uzziah Grimes, 6-1, Shooting Guard, Rome Free Academy, Class of 2025 - A guard that has a penchant for making clutch and crucial plays on the court. Is able to free himself on the offensive end and is prone to getting hot from three-point range. Finds ways to get to the basket and is able to finish in the lane.
