2024 Gotham Hoops Classic Standouts

On Sunday, February 4, We went to Adlai Stevenson Educational Campus in the Soundview section of The Bronx for the Gotham Hoops Classic. The event featured teams from various states, including public schools and and prep schools that battled during the two days. On this date, we got to see the final three games: Brooklyn Collegiate vs. James Monroe Campus, Thurgood Marshall Academy vs. Baldwin High, and the home team, Adlai Stevenson High against the Rail Splitters of Abraham Lincoln High. Here are the standouts from the three games:


Flavio Jean 6-0, Point Guard, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to use his shiftiness to get past the opposition and can also create for himself off the dribble. Has a penchant for finding his teammates at the right times so that they can find ways to score. Is a player that likes to drive to the basket and can also finish. He can also shoot the perimeter.


Toribola-Babs Ogundeji 6-5,  Small Forward, Brooklyn Collegiate High School, Class of 2024 - A forward that has a long wingspan and has a penchant for being a terror on the defensive end. Has the ability to put the ball on the floor and can drive to the basket and is a good finisher at the basket. Has the ability to use his strength to box out in the low post to obtain rebounds. Has the ability to block shots on the defensive end.


Mohamed Rashid 6-2, Shooting Guard, James Monroe Campus, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to go to the hole and drive to the basket. Has a penchant for sticking with his man on the defensive end and is able to crash the boards effectively. Is counted on to make clutch plays on the floor and is a huge asset to his teammates.


Amadou Barry 5-11, Point Guard, James Monroe Campus, Class of 2025 - A guard that is the engine for his team and can make great plays on the floor for his team. Has plenty of quickness on the court, as he is the guard that has the ability to distribute the ball to his teammates so that they can score. Has the ability to get to the basket and is a solid finisher.


Terrell Hood 6’1 Point Guard, Thurgood Marshall Academy - A guard that has plenty of energy on the court and has the ability to score in bunches. Has the ability to take clutch shots from the perimeter and is a good finisher when driving to the basket. Does not hesitate to create for himself on the offensive end, but can also set teammates up for passes. Can destroy the defense if he is not guarded heavily.


Ahmad Torrence 6-5 Point Guard, Thurgood Marshall Academy, Class of 2025 - A guard that has great court vision and is able to outwork smaller players due to his size. Has a penchant for distributing the ball to teammates that are streaking towards the basket. Has the ability to power his way to the basket and can finish efficiently.


Chase Timberlake 6-0, Shooting Guard, Baldwin High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has a penchant for taking over the game with his scoring ability. Is fearless when he decides to drive to the basket and is a great finisher that can also get to the free-throw line. Has the ability to shoot from three-point range, especially if left open.


Gabriel Phillips 6-3, Forward, Baldwin High School, Class of 2026 - A forward that has the ability to make his presence felt on the floor with his ability to patrol the paint area. Has a penchant for attacking the glass and is a great shot blocker. Has the ability to muscle his way into the basket on the offensive end.


Mate Mamrishkivili 6-3, Shooting Guard, Abraham Lincoln, Class of 2024 - A guard that has plenty of speed and energy when he’s on the floor. Has quick hands as he is able to get steals and flash down the court and turn it onto the offensive possession. Has the ability to provide his explosiveness when going to the rim.


Ajani “AJ” Solomon 6-0, Shooting Guard, Abraham Lincoln High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt on the floor with his guard play. Has a penchant for making pull-up jumpers at the top of the key or from three-point range. Has the ability to be a solid defender, as he is able to get steals and stick with his man at all times.


Tristan Burth 6-8, Forward, Adlai Stevenson Campus, Class of 2024 - A forward that has the ability to be a dominant presence when on the floor. Is able to drive to the basket and can put the ball on the floor. Has great hands and knows when to time his blocks and obtain rebounds. Is able to muscle his way around the basket.


Ahmed Cisse 6-4, Point Guard, Adlai Stevenson Campus, Class of 2024 - A guard that has the ability to see the floor and control the tempo on the floor. Has a penchant for driving to the basket and getting past the opposition. Has a nice shooting stroke from the outside and from mid-range, which he is very confident in using whenever the opportunity arises.


Dishon Herrera 6-6, Forward, Adlai Stevenson Campus, Class of 2024 - A forward that has a long wingspan and has plenty of length. When on the defensive end, he has the ability to block shots and even obtain rebounds. On the offensive end, he is able to shoot from the perimeter and is able to put the ball on the floor, so that he is able to drive to the basket and score.
