2024 CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Championship Standouts

On Friday night, February 24, we joined the big crowd in the Fresh Meadows section of Queens for the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan championship game. It featured Nazareth Regional High School, the division’s regular-season champion against St. Francis Prep, the home team. Throughout 32 minutes of action, both teams played a tough brand of basketball. But in the end, it would be St. Francis Prep defending their home turf, as the Terriers would win by a 20-point margin, over the Kingsmen. As a result of making it to the championship game, both teams will receive a bye to the CHSAA City quarterfinals on March 3rd at Fordham University’s Rose Hill Gymnasium in The Bronx.


Here are the standouts from the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens Diocesan championship game:


Troy Fason, Jr. 5-11, Point Guard, St. Francis Preparatory High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has plenty of quickness and is also a great scorer. When he has to, he will definitely make it his mission to distribute the ball to his teammates, so that they can score. Finds ways to be active on both ends of the court including defensively.


Nolan Raymond 5-10, Shooting Guard, St. Francis Preparatory High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has cat-like instincts and is always aware of where the ball will be at in certain moments. Is able to obtain steals and flash to the basket with precision. Has a penchant for shooting from the perimeter and is a great finisher on the lane.


Vere Anthony 6-0, Point Guard, St. Francis Preparatory High School, Class of 2026, 2026 - A guard that is a great playmaker on the floor that can slow down or speed up the tempo for his team. Is able to set his teammates up for passes on the offensive end so that they can score. When he goes to score, he is aggressive in getting to the basket.

 

Nigel Moore 6-1, Shooting Guard, St. Francis Preparatory High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that brings plenty of energy on the floor for his teammates. Knows when to make the right plays on the court and knows where to be on the defensive end. Is very fearless when driving to the basket and trusts his own instincts when it come to taking certain shots.


Oesoemana Sacko 6-8, Forward, St. Francis Preparatory High School, Class of 2026 - A forward that is very mobile and is able to show his versatility in many ways on the floor. Is able to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. Has plenty of strength and uses it on both ends of the court, especially when it comes to rebounding. Is also known for stepping outside and hitting shots from three-point range.

 

Tristan Rogers 6-0, Point Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that is the unquestioned leader of his team. Is a player that directs the offense and gives his team the opportunity to flow when on the court. When he’s on the offensive end, he can be deadly from three-point range and is able to drive to the basket and finish efficiently.

 

Jacob Roman 6-2, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2024 - A guard that has plenty of grit and is a hard worker on the court. Is able to get to the free throw line with ease, as he likes to drive to the basket and is very fearless when it comes to absorbing contact in the paint area. Is known for his rebounding prowess.

 

Halon Rawlins 6-6, Forward, Nazareth High School, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the opportunity to hold his own in the post area and also showcase his versatility. Is a very aggressive driver when it comes to getting to the basket and is fearless when going into the paint. Is one of his team’s key rebounders and is wonderful at boxing out his opponent.


Achilles Desmangles 6-3, Shooting Guard, Nazareth High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to thrive in his team’s offense, as he is able to bring the ball up the court and make a move if there’s an open lane. Is great at getting to the free throw line, due to him prone to driving into the lane. Is also a great defender who is able to stay tied to his man and force the opposition into giving the ball up.

 

Kaiden Francis 6-8, Forward, Nazareth High School, Class of 2026 - A forward that is long and agile and finds ways to get involved in the game. Is a great rebounder and is able to back down his defender and score over him. Aside from his ability to dunk, he also has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter and from three-point range, making him a very versatile player.
