2024 Gary Sims Day Top Performers

On Sunday afternoon, June 16, we got to Edmonds Playground in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn for the high school game for the annual Gary Sims Day, powered by NYC Prospects. In this game, many talented players from the city & surrounding areas all came out to play for a great cause in celebrating the life of the late Gary Sims, a former coach and mentor to many over the years. Here are the standouts in this game:

 

Andrew Leonard 6-1, Shooting Guard, Townsend Harris High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has plenty of toughness and is fearless when it comes to any challenges presented in front of him. Is a player that likes to drive to the basket and can absorb contact and is an excellent finisher. Is able to make his presence felt from three-point range as he is a deadly shooter.

 

Sincere Folk 5-11, Point Guard, South Shore High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has a penchant for being a great floor general and is able to make sure that his teammates get the ball during crucial moments. Is a player that can defend and is always ready to make his presence felt on the offensive end. is able to attack in transition and has the ability to finish strongly at the basket.

 

Jahzir Crawford 5-10, Point Guard, Holy Cross High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to be a solid floor general and has plenty of court awareness. Is able to set up his teammates for passes when the opportunity presents itself. Has the ability to drive to the basket and can finish efficiently. Has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter and from three-point range.

 

Connor Igoe 6-7, Forward, Poly Prep Country Day School, Class of 2025 - A forward that has the ability to make his presence felt when it comes to his strength and his ability to be versatile in many ways on the court. Is able to post up smaller defenders and is able to obtain rebounds. Has a nice shooting touch from the perimeter.

 

Jalen Harper 6-4, Shooting Guard, Newman School (MA), Class of 2025 - A guard that is a lights-out scorer and can attack and finish efficiently in transition. Has the ability to break down defenses with his ability to get to the basket. Is very explosive and is able to finish at the rim. Has the ability to shoot from the corner. Named the game’s C0-MVP.

 

Trevor Lewis 6-1, Shooting Guard, Thomas Jefferson Educational Campus, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to use his quickness and athleticism in various ways on the court. Is able to finish at the basket efficiently and has playmaking ability, as he can also distribute the ball to his teammates. Has the ability to get his shot off efficiently whenever the opportunity presents itself.

 

Ian Archbold 6-4, Shooting Guard, Poly Prep Country Day School, Class of 2028 - A guard that is wise beyond his years and is able to handle anything that is thrown at him. Is a player that flourishes on the fast break and can dominate when in the open lane. Is able to get rebounds and dish it out to his teammates or get downcourt with ease.

 

Brian Castillo 5-11, Point Guard, Graphic Arts Communications Campus, Class of 2025 - A guard that has plenty of quickness and uses it to his full advantage when on the break. Is able to get his shot off when he is in the corner or on the perimeter. Is able to attack when going towards the basket and can absorb contact when it comes to finishing for two.

 

Marquise Lloyd 6-5, Small Forward, Epic South High School, Class of 2026 - A forward that has plenty of length and uses it to his advantage, especially when driving to the basket. Has plenty of versatility, as he is able to dish the ball out to his teammates when the opportunity arises. Has a nice shooting touch, as he is able to shoot jumpers when he is open on the perimeter.

 

Brian Kapfer 6-3, Shooting Guard, Fordham Preparatory School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to go all-out on every possession on both ends of the floor. Is able to obtain loose balls and can stick with his man on the defensive end. Is fearless when driving to the basket and is a great finisher that can absorb contact and is able to get to the free-throw line with ease.
