2024 Mecca Ball Classic Top Performers

On Monday, September 30, RecruitTheBronx.com made it over to the Elmcor Youth and Activities Center in the Corona section of Queens for the inaugural Mecca Ball Classic. This is a fall league in which some of the best high school teams in the city gear up in anticipation for the upcoming season. We caught a game that featured two solid teams from the PSAL in The Bronx’s DeWitt Clinton and Brooklyn’s own Eagle Academy II, the two-time defending city champions. Throughout the game, it was a great battle between both teams. But in the end, the Eagles would finish the game by dominating the Governors in the second half, cruising to victory. Below are the standouts from the game.


Hunter Frazier 6-7, Forward, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2026 - A forward that has a penchant for using his physicality on both ends of the court. Is able to muscle his way to the basket and is able to score with ease. Is able to outwork his opponent when it comes to obtaining rebounds. Has great timing when it comes to blocking shots.


Richard Jackson, Jr. 6-3, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to play two positions, lead guard and off-guard. Has the penchant for distributing the ball to his teammates and put them in position to score. Is great at finishing when in transition and always is ready to get his shot off when in three-point range.


Xavier Caesar 6-0, Shooting Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2026 - A guard that is known for his high-volume shooting on one end of the floor and his defense on the other. Always finds ways to get open and is able to get his shot off when he’s in the corner or anywhere where he’s in three-point range.


Amir Dockery 6-0, Point Guard, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2027 - A guard that is very quick and deceptive and finds ways to make excellent plays on the floor. Is able to attack in transition and is always able to find his teammates when they’re looking to score. Is a good defender, as he’s able to pick apart the opposition when it comes to obtaining steals.

 

Jeremiah “Jojo” Jacobs 6-7, Forward, Eagle Academy II, Class of 2025 - A forward that has plenty of length and is an imposing presence in the front court. Knows when to block shots and is able to use his length to obtain rebounds when in the paint area. Is able to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket, as well as finish at the rim.


Kion Danso 5-10, Point Guard, DeWitt Clinton High School, Class of 2026 - A guard that has the ability to control the tempo of the game as his team’s primarily ball handler. Is able to create for himself off the dribble and is able to drive to the basket with ease. Is able to give teammates the opportunity when he finds them open.

 

Josiah Davis 6-5, Small Forward, DeWitt Clinton High School, Class of 2026 - A wing that has the ability to make his presence felt on the floor at all times. Uses his athleticism both going up to the rim and is always able to get to the free-throw line. Is able to get up and absorb rebounds when in the post area.


Anthony Durant 5-10, Shooting Guard, DeWitt Clinton High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to drive to the basket and can always attack in transition. Has the ability to make his presence felt with his quickness on the floor and is able to obtain steals to get downcourt easily. Has a nice shooting motion from three-point range.


Johan Adames 6-5, Small Forward, DeWitt Clinton High School, Class of 2025 - Adames has the ability to use his versatility and skills in a number of ways. Is able to dish out the ball to some streaking teammates. Is able to obtain rebounds when in the paint are. Knows when to finish at the basket and will find a way to get the free-throw line.


Cleefton Guillou, 6-2, Shooting Guard, DeWitt Clinton High School, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to stick wit his his man when he’s on the defensive end. Is a solid rebounder and can find a way to finish when he’s transition. Is able to bring plenty of energy to his team, whether he scores or is going after a loose ball.
