2025 NY Gauchos 16u Player Profiles

The New York Gauchos Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball program offers youth in New York City the highest quality athletic programming, academic support and enrichment, and opportunities for lifelong success. Their goals are to produce athletes who can play basketball at the highest competitive levels, and to cultivate strong students and well-rounded citizens. Since 1967, the internationally-recognized New York Gauchos have operated under the stewardship of Teamwork Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit located in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. Each year they provide approximately 300 student athletes with an elite travel team experience, academic enrichment, and educational opportunities. Their home is the iconic the Gauchos Gym in the Bronx.
The Gauchos have a 16u boys team in 2025 that is coached by Iona Prep Assistant Coach, Paul Fisher. The team already has put up a 4-0 performance at the New Balance P32- Dallas event this spring. The player’s profiles are as below

Jayden Fisher (2028) 5’11 point guard, Brunswick School (CT) - A dynamic floor general with quickness and vision. Fisher plays up a year with the Gauchos. He has a high basketball IQ, excellent ball- handling, and a strong leadership presence on the court.
Joe Nunez (2027) 6’5 small forward, St James Performance Academy (VA) - A versatile wing with size and athleticism, Joe projects as a low to mid D1 prospect. He brings strong perimeter defense, rebounding, and scoring ability from the wing
position.
Mike Kmetz (2027) 6’3 small forward, Iona Prep - Kmetz is a physical and skilled small forward who thrives in transition and brings toughness on both ends. He projects as a low to mid D1 player with the potential to contribute early at the next level.
Colin Bishop (2028) 6’6 power forward, Brunswick School (CT) - Bishop plays up a year with the Gauchos. He is a long, developing forward with a high motor. He shows great promise as a stretch-four with rebounding and shot-blocking upside.
Dillon Callahan (2027) 6’5 shooting guard, St Thomas More School (CT) - Callahan is an elite shooter with size. He will be playing a NEPSAC AAA schedule next winter, which will help shake out as to whether he is a High Major or Mid Major D 1 recruit. He can create off the bounce, defend multiple positions, and knock down shots at a high clip from deep.
Josh Simmons (2027) 6’6 forward, Iona Prep - Simmons is a strong post presence who excels in rebounding, interior defense, and finishing around the basket. A Low Major D1 prospect with potential to grow his offensive game.
Caiden Howard (2027) 6’3 small forward, Rye Country Day School - A high-character, high-academic athlete, Howard is an Ivy League D1 prospect. He’s a smooth and efficient scorer with a strong midrange game and defensive tenacity.
Landen Phinazee (2027) 5’11 point guard, Iona Prep - Phinazee is a quick and shifty point guard with solid playmaking skills. He’s a poised ball handler and strong on-ball defender, projecting as a solid D2 prospect.
Bryan Camacho (2027) 6’3 wing, Don Bosco High (NJ) - Camacho is a high-upside athlete, a Mid to High Major D1 prospect. He plays above the rim, scores in bunches and brings energy and length to both ends of the floor.
Conor Deville (2027) 6’0 shooting guard, Iona Prep - Deville is a confident shooter and hard-nosed defender. He competes with intensity and is a projected D2 player with the tools to impact a program with his grit and shooting
ability.
