Fall 2023 Select Hoops NYC Player Profiles

Select Hoops is a new and up and coming program located in the NYC and Queens Area.  They are entering their second year as a program. They are sourcing their players from all five New York City boroughs. Their goal is to help create an atmosphere of growth, competitiveness, accountability, and structure for all of their student-athletes. Their motto is always be We Not Me, and everything they do will be as a family. Consequently, they are stocked from top to bottom with players that are terrific teammates, proven winners, and a culture building focus.

 

The players are currently being recruited by multiple D3 and D2 schools. The program is owned and the 17u team is coached by a strong culture builder Noah Griffith. Their 16u team is coached by Loughlin Alum and proven winner, Prince Reina. In this past season, Select Hoops sent and all of their graduating seniors on to play at the collegiate level/international level and to attend a four year universities.


They competed this past spring and summer in the ZGXL circuit as well as in Hoop Group tournaments, and Zero Gravity tournaments. This fall they will run in a comparable slate of events:

17u Roster

 

Mahir Ahmed (2024) 6’2, 165lb guard - Ahmed is a three level scorer that has the length and versatility to guard 1-4. Ahmed has also developed into a marksman sniper along the perimeter.  He moves incredibly well without the ball in his hands, which gives him opportunities in catch and shoot situations, off off-ball screens, etc for layups, mid ranges, and 3s. He has developed into a SG/CG with the ability to handle the ball, bring it down to set up sets, or push the ball in transition finding teammates. Ahmed runs the floor exceptionally well as teammates find him in the open court. He has the ability to stretch the floor for himself and his teammates. Ahmed is an incredible teammate, a proven winner, and a culture builder. He is one of two 17u captains and has those leadership abilities. He has D3 and D2 interest, with his high gpa and skill,  he is a great piece for a high academic college program.

 

Damian Martinez (2024) 5’9 160lb point guard - Martinez is a dynamic floor general that plays with poise on and off the ball. He has a tight handle, which he uses to get by his defender and make plays in the lane. He also has a great first step that gets him into the lane with ease. Martinez is known for his exceptional ability to find his teammates with precision. He possesses a unique talent for facilitating the game, seamlessly dictating pace whether that is pushing the ball or slowing down the pace as the situation demands. His proficiency in driving to the rim and scoring consistently leads to his remarkable skills as a scorer. He also boasts an excellent mid-range game, making him a versatile offensive threat. Beyond his offensive prowess as a scorer and as a facilitator, he’s a tenacious defender who can be trusted to guard the opposing team’s best player or best guard as he is consistently showcasing his well-rounded capabilities on both ends of the court. He is definitely a great college prospect as a lead guard.

 

Marcus Garcia (2024) 5’10, 170lb guard - Garcia is a quintessential combo guard, he has an innate ability to get to the rim with ease and he draws contact, with a smooth mid range jumper with such a high release point that makes it impossible not to draw a foul. He makes the right reads off of drives, half court sets, or in transition. Garcia also moves efficiently without the ball and has become a scoring factor in off the ball situations. He is a guard that plays with poise and competes at a high level on both ends of the court. He is a relentless competitor that leads by example but also effectively communicates with his teammates. For a guard, he has terrific ability to read defenses well and to set his teammates up in the right spots. Garcia has a good amount of D3 interest.

 

Ognjen Vasic (2024) 6’4, 185lb small forward - Vasic is a versatile basketball player, often occupying the role of a stretch forward with the ability to handle guard positions as well. He is a complete player at the guard/wing position as he has the ability to defend along the perimeter as well as has the physical attributes that enables him to effectively match up against bigger opponents. This causes exploitable mismatches across the entire court. Vasic stands out with his basketball IQ as well as his consistent shooting percentages. He plays with such a methodical pace that allows him to make efficient reads on both ends of the court. With Vasic’s high academics and versatile skills, he is a complete package for any high academic D3 program. 4.0 gpa


Milos Vasic (2026) 6’7 small forward - Vasic is a tremendous prospect within our program that has a silky smooth jumper to his already long frame and wingspan. With a long wingspan he has developed into a consistent shooter that can run the floor on the break or in transition. Vasic has developed tremendously over the spring and summer with the program. He has a growing offensive game as he is also becoming a three level scorer. As a defender, that can defend 1-4. He stands out with his shot-altering capabilities, making it difficult for opponents to score in the paint as well as along the perimeter with his overall length.  With a few years left before college he will become a major name that should garner interest up to D1 level.


Mateusz Łodziato (2024) 6’2, 180 lb wing - Lodziato has grown immensely with the program over the past few years. He has shown the ability to score the ball in a variety of ways and become a quality “3&D” student athlete. Lodziato plays with good footwork in the post and finishes nicely in the paint. Lodziato uses his handle to get into the lane and makes good decisions with the ball in his hands. He is a pest as a defender in the perimeter and along the post which makes him incredibly versatile as a defender. He plays the passing lanes well and communicates effectively on and off the court. He showed a good release on his jumper. Lodziato is a crafty wing who has the ability to score inside and out. He is currently being looked at by a few JUCO’s and D3 programs.

 

Michael Carpenter (2024) 6’0, 165lb guard - Carpenter is a strong player that is able to defend multiple positions 1-4. He also has a strong offensive game that can translate well to the next level. He has developed a shot to be more of a consistent scorer along the perimeter. He is an incredible teammate, a proven winner, and a culture builder.

 

Messiah Fiase (2024) 6’5, 183lb wing - Fiase has developed nicely as a wing player that has a lanky build that creates matchup programs for the opponent. He is able to defend along the perimeter with his length and his quickness creates problems for other opposing wings. As a lefty shooter, he is ambidextrous with the ability to use either hand on drives. In transition off of a rebound, he has a penchant for attacking the rim, looking to rim run, or driving and dishing out to teammates in the open court in transition. He is an incredible teammate, a proven winner, and a culture builder.


Edward Rollins (2024) 5’11, 161lb guard - Rollins is the heart and soul of the Select Hoops NYC program. He is also one of the two program captains. He plays with such passion and energy. It translates to the court, to his teammates, and throughout the entire program. He does all the small intangible things that do not show up on a score sheet. 

 

16u Roster

 

Tachel Compton (2026) guard - Compton’s ability to be a three level scorer has led him to be a fantastic guard for the program. A fierce competitor with a marksmen like qualities to his offensive game establish him as a solid player.

 

Elijah Fermin (2025) 5’9, 150lb shooting guard - Fermin’s ability as a shot making guard with a solid basketball IQ helps his overall game immensely. He is a sniper marksman that has a quick release and can heat up in a hurry. Offensively, he moves exceptionally well off the ball creating opportunities for himself and his teammates off of different actions. He’s shown capabilities offensively in transition in initiating it off a rebound or getting into his spots on the perimeter for shots or drives to the rim.


Dempsey Gonya (2026) 6’3 guard - Gonya is a tremendous prospect that has a silky smooth jumper to his already long frame and wingspan. Using his long wingspan, he has developed into a consistent and difficult to check shooter. He can also run the floor on in transition. Gonya has developed tremendously over the past two years with the program.  He is becoming a three level scorer that can also defend 1-4.


Jayden Thomas (2026) wing - Thomas has grown into a nice wing player that has a lot of upside. His athleticism off one foot, and off vertical is impressive. He has a knack to slash to the paint, and he has a decent mid range jumper.


Malik Ouro (2026) wing - Ouro is developing well within the Select program. He is still on the raw side, but has tremendous upside. He rebounds well, runs his lanes in transition, and is super athletic.

 

Dylan Sugrim (2026) guard - Sugrim’s ability to be an absolute marksman from the 3pt line makes up for his small frame. Offensively his ability to shoot off multiple different screening actions make him lethal around the perimeter.


Jequise “JQ” Febres (2026) point guard - Febres is a dynamic floor general that plays with poise on and off the ball. As a guard has a tight handle, which he uses to get by his defender and make plays in the lane. Febres is known for his exceptional ability to find his teammates with precision. He possesses a unique talent for facilitating the game, seamlessly dictating pace whether that is pushing the ball or slowing down the pace as the situation demands. His proficiency in driving to the rim and scoring consistently leads to his remarkable skills as a scorer.


Lorenzo Rodriguez (2026) - Rodriguez plays with such passion & energy. It translates to the court, to his teammates. He does all the small intangible things that do not show up on a score sheet and is the leader of doing the little things that make our program a quick up and comer. His offensive and defensive game has developed nicely within the Select program. 


Nazier Reina (2026) point guard - Nazier plays with poise on and off the ball. He has a tight handle, which he uses to get by his defender and make plays in the lane. Reina is known for his exceptional ability to find his teammates with precision. He possesses a unique talent for facilitating the game, seamlessly dictating pace, whether that is pushing the ball or slowing down the pace as the situation demands.
