2024 NY vs. NY Top Performers Week 1

On Tuesday, June 18, we were at the world-famous Rucker Park in Harlem for the first stop of NY vs. NY, the annual tournament put together by Nike and Game Seven Marketing. The competing teams are comprised of players representing the six Nike-sponsored tournaments (Tri-State Classic, Dyckman, Gersh Park, Lincoln Park, West 4th and Watson Classic). During this week, Tri-State was the host site and there were three games in which many of the best players in the city and the Northeast all came out to play one of the city’s most hallowed grounds. Here are the standouts for Week 1:
Kayden Mingo 6-2, Shooting Guard, Long Island Lutheran High School, Team Watson, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to be a solid playmaker and can take over a game with his scoring. Has the ability to create for himself on the offensive end and is able to get to the basket with ease. Has the ability to make his presence felt when he is open and able to shoot.
Brandon Stores, Jr. 6-4, Forward, St. Raymond High School, Team Watson, Class of 2025 (Georgia Tech commit) - A forward that has the ability to hold his own in the paint area, but has plenty of skills when it comes to handling the ball. Is able to muscle his way to the basket and finish strong when going up for two. Is able to hold his own when it comes to obtaining rebounds in the post.
Ben Ahmed 6-10, Forward, Putnam Science Academy, Team Watson, Class of 2026 - A forward with plenty of length and size and has the ability to dominate in the post area. Has great footwork and is able to run on the fast break. Has a penchant for finishing at the rim and can also make strong drives to the basket and score off of a layup.
Collins Chidera Onyejiaka 6-10, Newman School (MA), Team Watson, Class of 2026 - A forward that has the ability to make his presence felt on both ends of the court. Has the ability to block plenty of shots, which makes it difficult for the opposition to score. Has the ability to get open in the post and can finish at the rim efficiently.
Ashton Reynolds 6-3, Shooting Guard, Williston Northampton School (MA), Team West 4th, Class of 2025 - A forward that has a long wingspan and is very active on the break. Has great hands on the defensive end, which he uses when he’s on the block. Is able to finish efficiently when it comes to getting to the rim. Is a player that can run in transition.
Preston Fowler 6-7, Forward, Brewster Academy (NH), Team Tri-State, Class of 2025 - A forward that is able to make his presence felt on both ends of the court. Has the ability to run throughout the fast break and is very mobile. Is a great rebounder and uses his physicality to score at all times.
Badara Diakite 6-9, Forward, South Kent School (CT), Team Tri-State, Class of 2025 - A forward that has plenty of versatility in his game, as he is able to put the ball on the floor and can attack in transition. Has a penchant for crashing the boards for rebounds and is able to finish when going up for two. Has the ability to run on the fast break.
Yandel German 5-10, Point Guard, Our Saviour Lutheran High School, Team Tri-State, Class of 2027 - A guard that has the ability to use his quickness as an asset. Is able to drive to the basket and likes to hit floaters or get to the basket for a layup, which he does easily. Is also able to drive and kick out to a teammate on the wing and can also find his teammates when they’re open and put them in position to score.
Kaelen “Deuce” Destin 6-1, Point Guard, Cardinal Hayes High School, Team Tri-State, Class of 2025 - A guard that has plenty of quickness when he is on the court and is able to take advantage of the tempo when he’s on the fast break. Has the ability to shoot from long-range and is able to slice and dice his way to the basket. Is able to find his teammates in order to give them the ball and put them in position to score.
Anderson Diaz 6-1, Point Guard, St. Raymond High School, Lincoln Park, Class of 2027 - A guard that has the ability to hold his own on the court. Is able to drive to the basket and can finish in the lane. Is able to distribute the ball to his teammates and make sure that they are able to score. Has the ability to shoot from long range and has the ability to drive to the basket and finish efficiently.
Josh Powell 6-5, Shooting Guard, Archbishop Molloy High School, Team Lincoln Park, Class of 2026 - A guard that has a penchant for scoring in bunches. Is able to drive to the basket with ease and is able to hit jumpers from the top of the key. Is also able to obtain rebounds and run on the fast break and then drive to the basket.
Oesoemana Sacko 6-8, Forward, St. Francis Preparatory High School, Team Lincoln Park, Class of 2026 - A forward that has the ability to be a force on the court. Has a penchant to be a great rebounder and uses his physicality to hold his own on the court. Is able to put the ball on the floor and is able to drive to the basket and finish efficiently. Has the ability to shoot from the perimeter.
Tavien Tyler 5-6, Point Guard, Mount Vernon High School, Team Dyckman, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt when he’s on the floor. Has a penchant for scoring in bunches and has the ability to shoot jumpers from in and outside three-point range. Is also a player that can find his teammates on the break and put them in position to score.
Keiner Asprilla 7-0, Forward, Don Bosco Preparatory High School (NJ), Team Dyckman, Class of 2026 - A forward that has the ability to be a formidable presence on the floor, due to his height. Has the ability to crash the boards for rebounds and is able to run the floor efficiently. Tries to find ways to get open and can also step out and shoot from three.
Christian Jeffrey 6-3, Shooting Guard, Mount Zion Academy (MD), Gersh Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to take over the game with his scoring. Likes to drive to the basket and is able to finish at the cup. His ability to get to the basket also aids in him being able to get to the free-throw line. Has the ability to shoot from a certain distance.
Halon Rawlins 6-6, Forward, Nazareth High School, Gersh Park, Class of 2025 - A forward that is able to do whatever his teammates need when he’s on the court. Is able to showcase his athleticism when the opportunity when it comes to rebounding or going up for a basket. Is a good free-throw shooter, as he is good at drawing fouls to get to the basket.
Connor Sprattley 6-0, Point Guard, Thomas Jefferson Educational Campus, Gersh Park, Class of 2025 - A guard that has the ability to make his presence felt when on the floor with his ability to hold his own on both ends of the floor. Is a good defender that is able to stick with his man and can obtain steals and get downcourt easily on the offensive end. Has the ability to drive to the basket and is able to finish efficiently and also finds ways to get to the free-throw line.
