2024 NY Gauchos 3SSB 17u Player Profiles

The New York Gauchos Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) basketball program offers youth in New York City the highest quality athletic programming, academic support and enrichment, and opportunities for lifelong success. Their goals are to produce athletes who can play basketball at the highest competitive levels, and to cultivate strong students and well-rounded citizens. Since 1967, the internationally-recognized New York Gauchos have operated under the stewardship of Teamwork Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit located in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.  Each year they provide approximately 300 student athletes with an elite travel team experience, academic enrichment, and educational opportunities. Their home is the iconic the Gauchos Gym in the Bronx.


The Gauchos have a 17u boys team playing in the 2024 3SSB circuit that is sponsored by addidas. The team is being coached by NYC basketball coaching stalwart, Book Richardson.  His player’s profiles are as follows:

#1 Nigel Moore (2025) 6’2 guard, St Francis Prep - A speedy guard with a big rep as a tough defender, he challenges ball handlers and disrupts their rhythm and set plays. His great speed also allows him to excel in transition and beat defenders down the court. Moore has developed a smooth shooting stroke, which is reliable. He makes threes, floaters,  and tough inside hoops as well.


#2 Sincere Folk (2026) 6’0 point guard, South Shore High - Folk is a vocal leader who gets his guys in the right spots and looks to create for others. He defends well and has forced big turnovers thin big games.


#3 Johnny Keenan (2025) 5’10 point guard, Iona Prep - Keenan oozes “NYC point guard”. He plays fearless, aggressive, and and crafty basketball. Usually the smallest player on the court, which never seters him form having big impact on the game. He runs an offense, and can score in a wide spectrum of ways. Offered by Fordham.


#5 Lucas Morrilo (2025) 6’7 small forward, Iona Prep - Morrillo is everyone’s favorite teammate, in that he is always bring enthusiasm and high energy play. He stays under control ,plays above the rim and can score from all three levels. He defends multiple positions. He holds multiple D1 offers including High Point, Manhattan and University of Washington.


#11 Trevor Lewis (2025) 6’1 guard, Thomas Jefferson High - A hard playing hustler that will do whatever his teams needs to win. Wins 50-50 balls and defends like every game is Game 7. He shows college-game skills in that he plays off of two feet in the lane and can drop floaters. He will also seeks contact on his basket drives, and be a foul-magnet. 


#13 Asher Elson (2025) 6’10 forward, South Shore High - Elson is a high ceiling big. He’s versatile, has a high motor and is steadily improving his game.  He can shoot the ball very well from the midrange, or deeper. Holds multiple D1 offers, including Illinois, Syracuse, St. John’s, Fordham, Creighton and Temple.


#14 Brandon Stores, Jr. (2025) 6’4 small forward, St Raymond High (Georgia Tech commit) - Stores does everything on the court both sides of the ball.  He has a high basketball IQ, and can score from anywhere on anyone. He gets significant elevation on his shot, including mid range, and fall-away jumpers.


#15 Shamari Mitchell (2025) 6’7 forward, South Shore High - Mitchell is a very high-energy player and is a force on both ends of the court. He attacks the glass and loves to run the court in both directions. He is a great, above the rim finishers. He is a shot blocking and influencer on the defensive end of the court.


#23 Colin Phang (2025) 6’7 small forward, St Raymond High - A physically strong and active big. Phang’s activity levels and mobility make him a double-double potential every game. He defends the rim with attitude.


#35 Tristan Burth (2024) 6’8 forward, Adlai Stevenson High - Burth just completed a PSAL season as one of the city’s dominant bigs. Strong, athletic and plays hard. He has a body that is built to double-double. 3.4 gpa


  Elijah Parker (2025) 6’3 guard, Holy Cross High (CT) - Parker has excellent foot speed and a lethal first step. He can also hit the open three, when the defenses get wary of his paint drives. He covers a lot of ground is is impactful with his defensive activity.


  Halon Rawlins (2027) 6’6 small forward, Nazareth Regional High - Rawlins is on a steady rise as top NY prospect. He possesses the size to shoot over perimeter defenders, and has a nice stroke. He can also get into the paint using minimal dribbles.
